The temperatures here have been absolutely scorching here this past week. The fires down in San Diego have been terrible and have come at a time of the year where we normally have cool and foggy conditions. Even the beaches are abnormally hot.
We have spent the last five months remodeling a beach house that has been in the family for about 35 years. It has consumed A LOT of my sewing time, but it is now coming to a close. We are pleased with the way it is coming together and are looking forward to now enjoying our labor. Here is a glimpse of the new kitchen.
I’m thinking it would be a great place for a quilting retreat!!! As well, the local quilt shop is Roxannes and is highlighted in the newest edition of Quilt Sampler magazine.
Look at this cute little gift that I received.
….but look what it is. Is this cute or what???? It will be perfect for the embroidery machine.
Onwards and upwards………………….. May is already half over.
Your blocks are wonderful Mary and your new kitchen is amazing , enjoy ! I have heard about the fires , just dreadful .
ReplyDeleteI think your beach house would be perfect for a quilt retreat. Quilting and the beach are two of my favorite things, combining them would be heavenly.

I wish you could send a little of that warmth our way. It was 36 degrees this morning and 25 miles west of us had snow.

ReplyDeleteCheers!
Oh my goodness, Mary, that is a beautiful kitchen!!!! I just read that magazine this morning and saw the local shop was in Carpinteria! I would love to see it in person--the shop looked so bright and cheerful. Did you see the last page of the magazine there is a pattern with birds on it that was in the shop? It's really cute. I have to admit, I am a little jealous you can go there in person! Have you been there before?
ReplyDeleteOh, I saw a guy on the news talking about "weird" weather lately. I wonder how hot it's going to get this summer. And, last week while gardening I got into some poison ivy:(
ReplyDeleteCall me crazy but it looks to me that the next color for RSC14 should be yellow? lol.....Love what you all are doing with the beach cottage......quilting retreat sounds heavenly!
ReplyDeleteWow Mary! I just love the greens you used for this month's SS block!!! So fresh and bright - I want mine to look just like yours *wink* I haven't started on mine yet, but it will be first on my list when I return home. Your beach house is gorgeous!!! I could definitely see a group of us sitting there in the mornings, enjoying several cups of tea with you and looking forward to a couple of days filled with companionable sewing :*)
ReplyDeleteYour squares are coming along...going be one color fun quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove the kitchen.
Beautiful, lush greens on your block are the perfect antidote to the hot dry weather we've been having (so glad the hot spell broke today--I'm so enjoying having my windows open). I really like the blocks all arrayed. There's just something really fun about playing with color.
ReplyDeleteI smiled when I saw the clear wrapping still on the fridge--proof positive that you are coming to the end of a long job! I think that sounds dishy--that you have a beach house in your family, and even better that you were able to update it.
Quilt retreat? Perfect idea!
Stay cool--
Elizabeth
