Mellow Yellow

There has been a bit of yellow sewing continuing around here.  This month’s color for the RSC14 is  YELLOW so I have added some yellow posies into my Moda Bake Shop Row By Row project. 




These, along with some orange and pinks, were added to make the next completed row.



Which color combination came first – the blocks or the garden????  Could I have a one track mind?



One last question……how many times have you ripped out the same seem?  Not that I would know anything about that, but am simply curious.

A Bit of Stitching Week

I finally managed to get to the long lost sewing machine yesterday.  It was one of those days that I had to stay home and wait for a delivery.  While waiting, I did a bit of sewing. 

First off was the Cherry Spools and Lady Fingers row of the Row by Row Along that Moda Bake Shop is holding.  It is a fast one and I doubt that I will be able to keep up, but will eventually finish it.  My color inspiration comes from the x&+ blocks that Teresa is working on right now.  I love the bright and happy looks of her blocks.




Then I did my yellow Soul Searching block for the RSC14 this month.



It plays nicely with the other five blocks.



I need to share what was in the mail for me when we returned from vacation.  It’s always nice to have surprises waiting for when you return.

First off is a win from a giveaway that Amy of Sew Incredibly Crazy had.  Look at all of these yummy colored threads and fabrics.  I’m so excited.



For my fun little mini spools quilt I won all of these amazing patterns from Another Year of Schnibbles.  I was thrilled to win these – especially the Firecracker pattern.  It is one that I have been tempted to make for awhile now.  Thank you Sinta, Sheri and Thimble Blossoms!



It was a party weekend around here.  Sunday’s party was to celebrate the christening of the newest grandbaby – always a reason to celebrate.  (The Godmother is in labor today.)

Then There Were Five

Five months, five colors, five blocks......the May color for the RSC14 is green.  I’ve now finished the green Soul Searching block and have added it to the others.  It is growing so quickly.




The temperatures here have been absolutely scorching here this past week.  The fires down in San Diego have been terrible and have come at a time of the year where we normally have cool and foggy conditions.  Even the beaches are abnormally hot.

We have spent the last five months remodeling a beach house that has been in the family for about 35 years.  It has consumed A LOT of my sewing time, but it is now coming to a close.  We are pleased with the way it is coming together and are looking forward to now enjoying our labor.  Here is a glimpse of the new kitchen. 



I’m thinking it would be a great place for a quilting retreat!!!  As well, the local quilt shop is Roxannes and is highlighted in the newest edition of Quilt Sampler magazine.

….but look what it is.  Is this cute or what????  It will be perfect for the embroidery machine.

Onwards and upwards…………………..  May is already half over.  

Scrappy Saturday

Being that it is Saturday, it is time to post on my “purple” work for this week for the RSC14.



That brings the blocks to four now.  Being such a large block, the quilt is growing quickly.



I met a high school friend for lunch this week and we started our visit off by meeting at a quilt shop.  The shop is incredible and a bit overwhelming with so many bolts of fabric.  I really only needed some black and white stripes for bindings, but I saw some fabric that called my name as I walked past.  It was in the “food” section – macaroni and cheese.  Well…..one of my grandsons is a mac and cheese fanatic so I had to make him a bib with it.
 




I think he approved of it.  High five anyone?????

The blocks for my Goodnight Irene quilt are now finished.  I made it a bit larger so it can be used as a lap quilt.

I’ve done a wee bit more sewing this week, but can’t show that yet.  As well, I’ve had a large order of shirts and hats that have needed to be embroidered.  The machines have been kept busy.   Using a cheap wine rack is a great way to store stabilizers for the machine embroidery.



The rest of the week has been pretty boring – thank goodness – with semi annual checkups (dental cleaning, dermatology checkup, etc.) 

Making Aqua Headway

I’m really enjoying working on my New York Beauty blocks.  This was a QAL from several years ago and although I printed off all of my blocks, I did not get all ten sets finished.  The color aqua must be on my mind since that is the RSC14 color this month.




The aqua continued with the arrival of my swap quilt from the ALQS8.  This piece was made by Mary Jackson and came from the U.K.  I really love the wonderful scrappiness of this quilt and the workmanship is excellent.  The colors are fabulous too.




Switching gears a bit…. I completed a table runner for an auction that is coming up later this month.  I did one last year for the same auction and it went over really well.




The detail of the machine embroidery is a little hard to see in the photo above, but it was completed using various colors of Floriani threads.  These threads are really lovely for machine embroidery.  They have such a beautiful sheen to them. 



We’ll have little ones for the weekend so there won’t be any sewing being done around here. 

Teal and a Winner

After four name draws of “no reply” bloggers, congratulations go to Ida, the winner of my Uncommonly Corduroy Book Tour Blog Hop.  Ida does such beautiful work and I know that she is going to be thrilled with all of the fun projects in this great book.

The new color for March in the RSC14 is teal.  I LOVE the color and was really excited about sewing this month’s block. 




Now there are three………

In contemplating my goals for my March sewing, I am trying to be realistic.  We will be busy entertaining out of town company so I have decided to add at least four more blocks to my N.Y. Beauty project.  I first had to fix the first four blocks because I did not have my printer set to scale when I made them.  Now they are the same size as my others.

In the Pink

Pink is generally a color that I do not use much.  Perhaps it is because my mother always told me that I should not wear pink with my red hair.  Then again, it could be because I had four sons first and the house was anything but pink for many years.  Whatever the reason, this month has seen me noticing a lot of pink. 
The sunrises have been beautiful this week with the pink color lighting up the entire sky.



This month’s RSC14 color is also pink.  Scrounging through my pink scraps, I was able to come up with this block.



One of the plants blooming in the yard now has such a great color combination of orange and pink.  I think these colors would make a fabulous quilt.



Several years ago I made my mom a brushed satin nightshirt that she has loved.  It is showing its wear so this week I made her a new one to replace it…..in PINK.

Okay….I think I am finished with my pinks.  I wonder what color will strike my fancy next.

A Sewing Weekend

I had a fun day of getting reacquainted with my sewing machine yesterday.  It was a perfect day!  I had the doors and windows opened in my sewing retreat and listened to the chattering birds outside. 
Sew….what did I accomplish?

I added more blocks to my Goodnight Irene scrappy sewalong.  I’m still trying to decide how big I will make it, but I am thinking maybe 9x7 blocks. 




It appears that this block is a popular choice for the RSC14.  This month the color is blue.  I had seen this block on Wanda’s blog.  She has an eye for color and design that cannot be topped and her blocks in this design are incredible.  Thus….the inspiration!  The block is very large (24x28) so I seriously doubt that I will be doing all 12 months of this challenge.



Those who follow my blog know that with spring also comes the grandchildren’s school auction.  Each year I make a school uniform that is auctioned off.
 



I received my pincushion swap from my swap partner, Leona.  I just LOVE what I received.  This is a pincushion that I have wanted to make F.O.R.E.V.E.R. and have never done it.  I absolutely love everything about it – the fabrics, the color, the weight and the design.  As well, Leona included all sorts of fun goodies with it.  What a great swap it was!



For some reason I am continually getting an error message when I try to open blogger so I am back to using Live Writer if this post seems very strange.  It just seems to be a problem on my desktop computer so who knows what goofy setting I have changed.
