It has been a day (year) or so since I have posted anything on Blogger. I'm finding it challenging to relearn how to use it. They say it is always good to stimulate the mind so I am doing a great job on the task!
I've signed on to a couple of sewalongs this year and thought that a post would be the quickest way to link up.
There have been way too many UFOs hanging out in my closet so I joined Connie over at Freemotion by the River to finish one a month. To start the year off I chose String of Pearls from Christa Quilts. I believe this design goes back to 2015. I always liked the pattern and when a grandson requested a quilt for his dorm room I felt this design would be perfect. It quilted up beautifully using the Dazzle pantograph from Lorien Quilting.
As well, Connie is doing blocks each month using a different color. This month the chosen color was teal/aqua. I made a few confetti stars, a pattern from Amy Friend at During Quiet Time. I have a lot of these pieced from when I was in a bee swap. I thought it would be the perfect time to add to them and construct the quilt. I may actually be able to call this quilt a finish by the end of the year. Win/win.
Now I will see if I can add photos to this post. I have not used the laptop much, instead using the tablet. Adding photos to IG was quick and easy, but I have become a bit frustrated with IG. They seem to throw in all of these posts that "might interest me", making it more difficult to find the posts that I want to follow. Is anyone else finding the same thing?
On another note, my poinsettia this year has held up during our January heat and our Santa Ana winds to produce beautiful flowers. It has been in constant bloom since December and is such a welcomed sight each morning.
It is great to see you posting again. A lot of bloggers that I have loved visiting no longer post anything so maybe I will see more this year. Looking forward to visiting you again.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful to see your blog back in action, with a great quIlt to start off! That looks like a perfect pattern and fabric choice for a young man. Instagram seems to be a lot like Facebook with all the suggestions of what we "might be interested in" while often ignoring posts made by actual friends. Pretty much useless.
ReplyDeleteI found a fellow quilter here that likes color as much as I do! Your grandson's quilt is gorgeous! I remember that fabric used inside the squares...it was called Pearls or something like that, right? Also your scattered stars are going to look amazing using all the colors Connie provides over the year. I'm anxious to see this come together. I'm a whole lotta jealous of anything green (or red) growing outside in January! We've got a good 6" of snow covering our lawn here in Iowa and I'm sure there will be much more!
ReplyDeleteWhat?!? Do my eyes decieve me? LOL. It is SO good to see a post from you, Mary. String of Pearls is perfect for your grandson's dorm room. And isn't nice to get such a request? I love the fabrics in your confetti stars. I've never seen that block pattern. Are they paper pieced? The cactus is thriving. Glad you are back in blogland, my friend.
ReplyDeleteMary, it was such a nice surprise to see your blog post this morning! Welcome back. I'm not nearly as diligent with posting on mine as I once was, either. I love your quilt! The black frames on the colorful blocks just make them pop. It's a great quilt for a young man. I can't believe your poinsettia. Gorgeous! It will be fun to see what you are working on this year. :)
ReplyDeleteFun 'new' quilt projects :-) I love the aqua/teal stars. We'll enjoy seeing the colors added.
ReplyDeleteYour poinsettia is amazing! Growing beauties like that fill the soul. I planted bulbs awhile back and am enjoying some daffodils and crocus and looking forward to hyacinths and dutch iris.
I actually am working on a quilt top finish. This part requires hand applique and then some embroidery. Still not spending much time on it so this quilt will go into its 6th year before a finish. But at least I have hope of it now. And a finish might actually get me back to blogging as well. I've enjoyed your posts on IG...and yes, the barrage of posts they add at a whim is a little crazy making!
Welcome back! Those Poinsettias; amazingly beautiful! I love your String of Pearls and the 5 pointed aqua stars, sew, sew pretty.
ReplyDeleteGreat that you are blogging again! I have been attempting to do the same thing. Hopefully, it lasts for me. Your quilt is lovely and so are the teal blocks!
ReplyDeleteHello again!
ReplyDeleteI've found Instagram less and less useful. The things they think I might be interested in are not at all things I'm interested in. I'm sick of people telling me how I should live my life. I don't want their advice!
Maybe I should revive my blog too.
I cannot even imagine growing a poinsettia outside!! What a beauty it is.
ReplyDeleteOn IG, click on the 3 dots of one of those unwanted posts and click on not interested and then on irrelevant. That will get rid of a lot of them. Sometimes "seeing too many ads lately?" pops up on my feed and I click yes. Then there are lots less of them for a while.
You have been busy! The quilt is beautiful and your Confetti Stars are so neat, paper pieced? I have managed to keep my Christmas poinsettias alive in pots but yours are huge! I have neve seen the flowers like that. I'm so glad you are going my UFO and Color challenges!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from the block/color of the month challenge!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful. The fabric and pattern are great.
Your poinsettia is beautiful as well!
I posted my teal block on my blog. Nice to "meet" you.
I made the string of pearls quilt for my daughter when she was moving to her dorm. I like the color arrangement in your quilt and the quilting is beautiful. Can't wait to see how your stars quilt or project turns up.
