Woohoo…..two months and two UFO finishes! Thanks to Connie at Freemotion by the River I have managed to finish another long waiting UFO. This one was started in 2014 and is from my trusty scrap basket. I’m really pleased with how it finished. I have to ask myself why it took me so long. For one, I gave myself a wide border so I could do a scalloped border. That meant I needed to make a template. Then there was that whole bit about biased single binding. Oh dear! Anyway, it is now finished and I am so pleased.
It has a rather fall feel to it so the backing I chose is an autumn-y print.
Of course I obviously needed extra help hand stitching my binding down.
Again at Freemotion by the River, I am linking up my red stars made for February’s color red.
These are the existing stars that I will be adding to throughout the year.
Taryn at Repro Quilt Lover on IG has chosen the Fancy Four Patch design this year. We are suppose to do four blocks per week. I’m a wee short, but these are the ones I have finished so far.

All of your projects are so beautiful, but I especially love the first one---I believe it is called the Spider Web block? The scalloped edge is really fantastic. I was thinking just the other day about putting one on a baby quilt. But I am wondering about binding it. Was it very hard to do?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Joyce. Yes, it is a Spider Web pattern. The bias binding wasn’t hard, but rather time consuming. I played around a bit and decided it needed to be cut at 1 1/4” wide. It is also single fold so when I applied it, I had to fold in the other 1/4” to sew it down. It probably would have been easier to press that 1/4” before I sewed it to the quilt. As they say, live and learn. I think the double fold binding would have been too thick for the scallop points. I also think that scallop ruler would make everything easier! lol. In other words…..give it a try!
DeleteLove the scalloped border! I had to take a closer look at your binding. At first I thought it was pieced also. ;o) Stars are cute. The Fancy Four Patches are fantastic...I almost want to make some...almost...I'm trying really hard not to chase squirrels.
