August 2020

Before August slips away, I should get a blog post in the record book.  The month has really gone quickly, although I don't have a lot to show for it.

The granddaughters and I enjoyed an extended summer of sewing and sharing our baking skills with each other.  They all left last weekend for their respective colleges.  I told them that I would need the next six months to sort out my sewing studio again.  lol

Our Gridster Bee block for this month was Room for Squares from Zen Chic.  It was a free paper pieced download. I just love Linda's color choices and you can check out what all the blocks look like together by visiting her on Instagram @quiltlady63.  These were my four blocks.  She requested that we not sew them together so she could mixt them up.

Our tortoise eggs were busily hatching this month too.  These never cease to amaze me.  They have all gone to their adoptive homes.

Although I haven't managed to do a lot of sewing this month, I did start putting some blocks together from a kit that has been sitting in my sewing room.  I really like these Moda fabrics and I am enjoying the blocks.

The days are definitely getting shorter and I've noticed leaves changing colors and dropping.  It must be the colder temps we had a few weeks ago.  However, this week our summer finally arrived with higher temps and fires.  I do not know how the firefighters can battle the fires in such scorching temperatures.  They do a heroic job!

There is always a way to stay cool.....

  2. Your Gridster Bee blocks are very interesting, and great fabrics! I think many of us found this month to be too scattered and full of summer activities to accomplish very much in the sewing room. Good luck with the reorganization process! Our grands arrive next weekend and we'll be making a lot of masks for the beginning of school. Not my idea of a fun weekend but it needs to be done.

  3. The gridster block is so interesting. I really love the gray background fabrics you chose. I have purchased several charm packs with writing on them in hopes I can figure out how to use them like you do! So sad that these fires come at this time of year...not that they would be welcome at any time. Those firefighters are such heroes. I've never met a MODA fabric I didn't love........

  5. Sew special to have the granddaughters spend time with you in the sewing room even if it means you need to tidy afterwards. 😁👍🏼

  7. I have enjoyed seeing these gridster bees blocks on IG over the last few weeks. They are going to make a fun quilt. Your sampler blocks are beautiful, too. The colors are so soft and soothing. We are headed to the beach in a week and are so excited. Your grandson is adorable!

  10. The babies are so bright and colorful when they hatch! Box turtle hatchlings are really hard to see because they're so dark and drab! I love the Room for Squares block; really cool. Your color choices really enhance the design!!! Continue to enjoy your summer!! :)

I can see the bee-block looking fantastic in a completed quilt. Those newly hatched turtles are fascinating! Sweet beach photos - seems to be the best place to be!

  14. I love reading your blog, as everything revolves around creation: making and baking with the granddaughters, quilting and sewing, watching over hatchlings, and of course, creating memories with the family. So fun to read this today!

Sounds like you have had a lovely August, spending time with family. I hope your fire season passes quickly. Personally I don't like the beach in summer, I find it too hot. I love it in winter though.
