Some Quilting Time

The last month has been such a blip on my calendar, but I have managed to squeeze in a bit of sewing here and there.

One of the great swaps that I participate in each year is the ALQS.  I shared the mini I made already, but I have to show you the one I received.  It is absolutely beautiful and has so many fun techniques.  The colors are amazing and I really love this little quilt.  I am showing it on its side as the photo appears more detailed that the upright one.

You can read some of the techniques Joan used by reading her label.

As well, in my package, Joan included a brooch that she made.  Isn't it lovely too?

We took a little road trip up Hwy. 89 through Utah so I had some time to work on my second circle in my EPP project.  The curves were a bit of a challenge for this new EPP quilter, but I am pleased with the way it turned out.  I haven't trimmed them down to their 12" block yet so it looks a little ragged around the edges.

Elizabeth at OPQuilt has created the designs for these circles and the patterns can be found on her blog.

There were so many fabulous QALs this summer.  I would love to join each one, but the Hillside Houses (link on my sidebar) is one that I had to start first.  The little houses remind me of beach huts.  I have nine of the twelve blocks completed.

We spent a few days at the beach with my sister, BIL, brother and SIL.  Although June tends to be foggy most of the day at the beach, we had a great time.

We had the last of the graduations of the year this week and have been enjoying a lot of time with little ones here too.  It's no wonder the weeks have slipped by so quickly.

Now.....I'm off to clean house after the weekend mess.

  5. What a wonderful post full of fun goodies to look at and adorable pictures of the kiddos! That last one with the little guy sitting on the countertop is just so sweet, I think I would have to print it off bigger and frame it and hang it in my kitchen! Glad you had a good time at the beach and not too much foggy weather! Love your mini beach houses, what a fun quilt, I hope you are going to put it in the beach house either on the wall or at the foot of one of the beds, it would look amazing! Home Goods is so full of beachy things right now, the pillows make me drool but seeing as we don't have much of a beach at the lake it really wouldn't fit! ha! Lovely picture of your grandson graduating, you had quite a few this year! :o) It's been lovely here, we were at the lake both Sat. and Sun. afternoon. Today has been so nice too but more rain for tomorrow......yes, I wish I could send some of it your way!!!! xo

  10. Great photos of your busy month! Love that quilt! Did you go through Panguitch on your Hwy 89 trip? I'm about an hour and 45 minutes from there and just spent time with my friends going to the quilt show there. Beautiful scenery on that road!

  11. Family fun is the best! Your mini quilt is gorgeous, as is your brooch. How lovely! I really like your EPP project. I am getting the itch to do some handwork, but don't know what. I might have to look at Elizabeth's website. I'm not normally a house person, but LOVE your Hillside Houses project. They do look like beach huts!

  12. A busy month indeed! But what a fun one, from the sounds of it. EPP makes the perfect accompaniment for a road trip. I've never seen curved pieces done EPP (although when I look at that block, I can't imagine making it any other way than some kind of paper piecing).

  15. This was such a fun post! I love your EPP project and have always wanted to make this block. My favorite photo is the quilt with the houses on it. I love the art look it creates with the overlapping houses.

  21. Mmmmm wine on the beach looks divine! The quilt along you joined looks fun! A house quilt has always been something I'd like to make but have never gotten around to it. Glad you are finding time to sew even though your summer is so busy!!!

  22. I still marvel at your large family, Mary, how wonderful it is that you get to see them regularly. The two projects you are working on are lovely - and look particularly summery :-) The beach houses are very cool. Very gorgeous ALQS piece too - so much to look at in it.

  23. I think your EPP block turned out wonderfully! Bravo to you for getting it done while traveling (that's when I like to do EPP, too--that and while watching movies with my DH).

I smiled when I saw one of your granddaughter's playing dress-up in that fabulous silky outfit--I have an old wedding dress in our dress-up box and it's fun when I can get that box out and let them go to town.

Your time at the beach looked idyllic, and loved the mini you received. All fun summery projects. Oh, and PS--sorry for filling up your email box, but I'm catching up with my blog reading and am having fun seeing your posts!
