Goodbye July

How can it be time to bid farewell to July already?  Yikes, it will soon be Christmas at this rate.
July’s color for the RSC14 was red.  I managed to get my red Soul Searching block in just under the wire this month.  My guess put next month’s color at orange, but it is moving along quickly.  I love the red!

Now there are seven…..  I am not really pleased with my blue block (the first one) and I may remake that one in the end.  I like it better when the intensity of color matches better.

Since I have been spending a lot of time with my mom in rehab since her surgery I have had some peaceful hand sewing in the works.  See the gingham????  It’s a project for the upcoming See You in September blog hop.  My date is September 11th – sadly, an easy one to remember.

Orange Peel

My mom had surgery a few weeks ago so I have had some added time for a little hand stitching.  I contemplated doing some Grandmother Flower Garden flowers, but decided instead on some Orange Peel blocks.  I enjoyed working on the ones in my Trifle Dish quilt.  There is a fun QAL going on through the summer for the Orange Peel blocks.  This is what I have so far.

We managed to slip away for a few days for our annual family fishing trip.  I was not great with picture taking this time, but here are a few shots of the kids and grandchildren with whom we made memories.

These pictures were taken the night before we left and son #3 and his family had to leave early to get home in time for a summer camp date and a horse show on Sunday.

There is nothing quite as relaxing as having a pole in the water, waiting for a nibble and enjoying a view like this. It recharges the body batteries!

Thoroughly Thursday

The weeks are just zipping along here.  Here we are in the middle of July already.

After working on the Trifle Dish QAL, I thought many of the rows would make great little table runners.  With July’s RSC14 color of red, I decided to make some red posies.

These became this making a nice 16x46” table runner.  It's been a great year for fabric selecting from my scrap bins.

That is about all of the sewing that I got done this week with houseguests and celebrating our country’s Independence Day.

Our quilt guild had Gyleen Fitzgerald come and speak this week.  She was a great speaker – so witty and a wonderful quilt show too.  I had participated in her Pineapple Challenge about four years ago and enjoyed her technique.  You can see my Pineapple Quilt here.

I’ve had some exciting mail lately that I must share.  First was a win from Sherri of A Quilting Life.  These gorgeous fabrics arrived in my mailbox.  The colors are soooo pretty.   The fabric is Moda Printemps Pond.

As well, I was the lucky winner of three Gigi's Thimbles patterns at A Little Bit Biased.  I really think I need to try the Fresh Cut design as I think I have a few granddaughters who would claim it right away.   Thanks, Amber.

Onwards with July!

Controlled Wonky

It was so interesting to read the different comments on the border for this quilt.  I appreciated all of them.  To me, it felt unfinished, but I knew I could not add another full sized border.  I liked the "wonky" of it being offset.  In the end, I made it into a more controlled wonky finish.  Be sure to visit Moda Bake Shop to see all of the different quilts for this sewalong.

It’s a big quilt, finishing at 80” x 107”.  With all of the unsewing I did on this one, I am ready to be finished with it.  Thanks to Moda Bake Shop for the fun Trifle Dish SewAlong this summer.

I have a few of my orchids blooming in the house.  They always look so elegant.

We’ll have houseguests for the next five days so computer time will be limited.  Have a safe and wonderful July 4th.
