Happy May

Well....I had planned a social media break for Lent and then Covid arrived and everything seemed to go crazy.  Life was so normal when I wrote my last post.

Like everyone else, I have been sewing masks one after another.  Two of our sons own restaurants and needed masks for all of their employees.  Between those and masks for family and friends, hundreds of masks have been made - different styles and different fabrics.  When elastic was unavailable, I used T-shirt yarn for the ties.

I was looking forward to some other sewing once the masks were finished.  The grandsons had a remodel of their room to a baseball theme so it was the perfect excuse to use some of my baseball print fabrics that I had been stashing for awhile.

In the garden, the amaryllis finally bloomed.

Blocks were made for our Gridster Bee.

And potholders were made for our Potholder Swap.

We've taken drives out to see the spring wildflowers.

We've taken walks on the beach and worn the dogs out.

.....and in all that time, Blogger has changed again.  I am finding myself unable to leave comments on some of my favorite blogs and I have no idea how to enlarge my photos.  I can always count on Blogger to change things up.

  1. So good to catch up with your activities, I think we've all been spending a lot of time making masks for family and friends, and the local care centers. Hopefully this will all end soon. Your amaryllis are gorgeous. Thankfully I haven't had any issue with blogger, at least that I'm aware of, though I don't intend to click on their invitation to try the new blogger. A recipe for disaster I suppose. Hope you have more time for quilting soon. The boys should love their new quilts, they look perfect for a couple youngsters.

  2. Yes life has changed, although here, as we are both in our 80's perhaps not as drastically for some. Walking the beach here is OK and the old bones just cope. I find I am doing more hand sewing and catching up on reading. Missing my great grand children, so sad to miss their baby years. Hope all is well.

  3. Love seeing you pop up again Mary and know all is well with your family and you...
Haven't made any masks as it's not required here to wear one...
The baseball themed quilts are great and perfect for the boys redo of their rooms.
Pretty Amaryllis and the flowers on your drive are lovely too.
Great swap bee blocks and pot holders.
Nice to go for a walk on the beach and wear out the dogs...
I've had no trouble with blogger so far but I didn't press update....

  4. Those fields of wildfowers are stunning. Your grandson's quilts are fabulous Goodness me you made them quickly. Your bee blocks are great, especially the flower one. I see on the news California is beginning to lessen the restrictions. It's great you are able to take long walks along the beach. Keep well and take care, Mary.

  6. So much goodness in this post :-) I hope the blogging comment woes clear up for you. It's always kind of a mystery to me fixing these issues. My troubles have been fixed by clearing 'cookie's' or something. Sorry I can't tell you what. HA! Like I said....a mystery to me.
The masks looks wonderful! You have had a full job getting those done for your son's businesses. I hope all those workers are still doing well.
The baseball quilts are going to be cherished. Such fun designs for those boys!
The pictures of the flowers are spectacular! I drove over to Atascadero yesterday. We are starting to lose the green but the flowers were so vibrant. It's a beautiful time of year.

  8. I can help you with your blogger problems. First to enlarge your photos you need to go in and change to NO in Show Images with Lightbox. For comments, I had the same problem and another blogger solved it. You have 3rd party cookies blocked. I found the place to change that in Chrome settings.

  10. fields of pretty flowers... google toyed with me today... to enlarge during edit, you can click on the image, and it comes up small med. or lge right? I'm not happy they did away with "spell" they squiggle the word to say it's not correctly spelled but no button now for correct spelling. I still care about that.

  12. Love the baseball quilts. So good of you to make so many masks. Glad you're doing well. Gotta love Blogger. It kept me from receiving notice when someone commented on my blog. Along with other reasons I finally decided to combine my blog and website.

  14. Loved seeing the poppies and beautiful landscape Mary! Your little dogs looks exhausted and content. I know you have been making lots of masks and it is great that you're finding a little time to work on other quilt projects. I don't use Blogger anymore so I'm glad Wanda could help you!

  15. The amaryllis are so pretty! You've been very busy! The only issue I've had with blogger is that suddenly some of my pics are showing up on previous posts? I don't know what's up with it. (Wish it wasn't a pain to switch to something else!)

  16. So nice to see you back on your blog! I'm not surprised to know that you have been making skads of masks. The baseball quilts are awesome! I especially like the courthouse blocks on the border of the first one. And gosh, is there anything more beautiful than a blooming amaryllis? Mine had 2 blooms this year!

  17. Those are lovely masks, I am sure they brightened the recipients days. The baseball quilt looks fabulous and such fun coloured small sewing projects. I am so glad you got to see the wildflowers. Where did you go? The amaryllis flowers are gorgeous. The dogs look so adorable sleeping together. It's always wonderful to come visit you here.

  18. Glad you are doing fine and not a mishap of this virus! I too am frustrated when I want to post on a blog, and it basically says, NOPE, NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

  19. Wow! You have been busy and all of your photos are excellent. I especially like the picture of the adorable puppies :) and of course the pic of my amazing potholders. Just received them yesterday and they are beautiful. Just love the colors you use. Thank you so much!

  20. Lovely to read your post, Mary. Gosh those masks would have really kept you out of mischief, it looks like you had some fun with your fabric choices. Your bee blocks look great too, but well done on two quilt finishes - bet the boys are pleased with their new quilts. I particularly like the way you did the border of the squarer one. Wildflower season looks like a gorgeous time to be out and about.

  21. I, too, have been having difficulties leaving some comments. Who knows what’s up? Someone's attempt to make changes to 'make it better'? You’ve managed to keep nice and busy. I never thought to use t-shirt yarn instead of elastic. Pretty smart! I only made so many masks, for family and family friends. Goodness, those amaryllis are pretty!

  22. Best Baseball quilt EVER! Your flowers are so so pretty as well.

I just cannot believe how much mask making has been going on. It is so wonderful how many are doing them all over the world. I am glad some of my stash was useful.
