e,i,e,i,o........

This week brought us the rest of our vowels for the Repeat QAL.  We added the a, i and u to all of our e's.  I think there is a game show where one has to pay for their vowels....no??????

I'm looking forward to moving away from the vowels.

I worked on some of the Bullseye blocks for the Block Lotto this month.  This was a new to me technique, but kind of fun to create.

I also made good progress on a mini quilt for the ALQS10.  I have been a participant in this swap for a number of years now and absolutely love the way Kate runs it.  There is still time to join in if you are interested.  This year our mini quilt is only 10" square.  You can submit up to two quilts.  I have received the nicest quilts in return over the years.

I promised photos of our growing baby cockatiel.  It is still very vulture-ish looking, but improving as more and more feathers appear.  It is now starting to eat seeds on its own and the parents are encouraging fledging.  Dad is the only one still feeding it as mom has moved on to better things.  The baby loves being held and is starting to chirp a bit.

Last week.....

This week......  starting to venture out on its own.

We had a wonderful weekend of celebrating all of the fathers in the family but I have no photos to share of it.  We were way to busy having fun together.

......but......we enjoyed our first BLTs of the year with our first fresh tomato from the garden.  This week the peaches are ripening. Although smaller than normal with the lack of water, they make up for it in quantity.   I know what my week ahead has in store for me.

I'll be back when the canning is done.

  1. Your letter blocks are so uniform and precise... they look great! And that little bird is just too cute. Have fun canning. Home canned peaches are the best.

  4. Your letters are nice looking. The fabric you chose is great. The letters almost look like a washout version of the background. Your little one is sweet. Birds always make me wonder how can something be so homely then get so beautiful? Our baby chicks are going through the awkward teenage stage---fluff, feathers, challenging authority.

  5. Your letters are perfect! Love the background fabric. Ohhhh! your baby bird is adorable! I planted my garden here in Ohio just this past two weeks. This year I had to wait until after Memorial Day to get good plants at the greenhouse and for the ground to be warm enough this year. (We had snow in May!) Happy canning!

I haven't tried the Block Lotto blocks yet. It's on my to-do list.

  8. Sweet baby bird! Your produce looks wonderful as well, we can only dream of August when the tomatoes begin to ripen, and peaches are for more southern climes - or at least closer to the lakes where the winter temps are more moderate.

  15. So many fun things in your post--from baby birds to your first tomato (congrats! I think all of ours burned up in last week's heat) to peaches, quilts and vowels. Yes, I think you had to buy the vowels, if I remember correctly. I was wondering where you'd been lately and now this morning, here you are. So glad to see you again!

  16. So ugly it's cute. Awww....is there a name for the baby? Wheel of Fortune lets you have free consonants but you have to buy the vowels. LOL. If you add a "K" to the vowels you've shown you'll have Kauai! I'm picking zucchini but no ripe tomatoes yet. Can't wait! Happy Canning.

  17. Love you feathered friend.Canning, good on you. I haven't planted anything this summer. I thought I might go buy some herbs for my herb garden and call it good this year.

  18. I'm loving seeing these letter blocks come to life! Your background fabric is working beautifully - yum!!! I'm saving the patterns and hope to get started on mine next week. Middle granddaughter is visiting for the next couple of weeks, so sewing time is limited. So enjoying seeing the baby cockatiel grow up. Perfect example of "ugly duckling to beautiful swan" story :*). And is there anything more tasty than BLT's from freshly grown tomatoes? Nope, I don't think so either.

And your bird is so cute. Many people would say that's ugly, but for me it is really beautiful.

  20. I have never seen a baby cockatiel before. Her feathers are growing beautifully. Mmmm... BLT!! Must have been so good with fresh tomatoes. Your post name made me laugh again! The vowels are looking so crisp and sharp and your curves on the Bullseye block are incredibly precise. Amazing! I always love reading your posts :)

  21. Your quilt blocks are each amazing. Your sewing skills are wonderful. And you garden and can peaches. How sweet your little baby cockatiel is. My Grandma had averearies and raised parakeets, canaries, cockatiels and mynah birds. She also sewed and canned and did lots of homemaker things that I miss. Summer Sunshine Smiles...
