There hasn't been much sewing going on around here so this is the perfect time to show some old favorites. Soma of
Whims and Fancies is hosting a Trunk Show event on her blog. Soma is a very talented pattern designer, photographer and artist as well as a great blogger. She has some terrific sponsors for her trunk show with some great prizes so be sure to check it out and join in on the fun. It runs until November 18th.
As quilters/sewers we will find any reason to create a quilt. I have made quilts for each of the grandchildren when they were welcomed into our family - all twenty nine of them. These are a couple of my favorites over the years.
Of course, there are many reasons to make quilts......
birthdays......
weddings....
....and to offer comfort and donate to charities.
When we run out of beds to cover, there are always walls in need of "warmth".
No more wall space????? How about table decorations?
Placemats too....
Oh.....and let's not forget our little quilts for our coffee mugs.
To me, sewing has been a joy in my life since I was very young. Initially it was all about sewing for my dolls and then garment sewing. I loved designing and sewing my own clothes. I made my own wedding dress as well as all of my bridesmaid's dresses.....yes, this was back in the 60s so the photo is a bit faded.
Nowadays, I enjoy sewing for the grandchildren and have found a true love in quilting. This has been a snapshot of my life of sewing. Thanks for sharing it with me.
Sew many beautiful quilts, wall hangings, table toppers , place mats nod mugrugs...

ReplyDelete29? What a blessing. I hope we have lots and lots. Your quilts are all lovely. The Hexie coasters, and the dogs with fire hydrants. Love!
ReplyDeleteThat frog quilt always catches my eye when I see it. I guess maybe I should make one! Yours is delightful as well as all the others. I made clothes when younger as well; Ithink it's the natural lead-in to quilting.
ReplyDeleteYou just beautifully summed up all the reasons quilters quilt. And I'm still stuck on the phrase "all twenty nine of them." Wow. What wonderful reasons to quilt right there! Thanks for sharing your quilts--and your wedding picture!
ReplyDeleteWow, this post brings back memories. I made my wedding dress in 1970 and helped with the bridesmaid dresses. The hair styles also look familiar.
ReplyDeleteAnd I made the "Over in the frog pond" quilt as a baby gift (although I think the recipent was 2 by the time I got it done). I love that pattern, but I cursed it out a few times.
Great memories. Thanks for sharing.
what a lot of lovely quilts you have made thanks for sharing them - this trunk show is fun to visit
ReplyDeleteTwenty-nine grandchildren! you are indeed blessed. Thanks for your blog post. It's an interesting read and the quilts you showed us are fabulous. Thanks for opening your trunk up for us.
ReplyDeleteWow you have made many quilts! I think my favorite is Tea for Two although those quilts for your grandchildren are adorable. I have only two children so I don't think I will ever have 29 grandchildren. How wonderful. I will be torn between crocheting and quilting when that time comes for me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Really like your little bird quilt mini.
