Dealing With the "Ps"

Yep.....it has been a week of dealing with the Ps in my life - peaches, pears, peppers and pieces!!!!!!!!!  I have lots of canned peaches and pears as well as peach pie fillings which are now frozen.  Won't a fresh peach pie taste good in January?

We have an abundant supply of colorful peppers in the garden too.  Again, they are late in coming, but they are here.  I slice and then spread them out onto a cookie sheet.  Then I place them in the freezer until they are frozen.  Freezing them that way before bagging them up allows you to take out just the ones you need for cooking.  They, too, are wonderful all winter.

In between "putting up" I played with pieces.....

Halloween bags for some of the grandchildren.  I have made them for the others already.  One problem that I had with these was my package of rick rack.  I was not pleased with quality assurance when I opened this package and had to patch it to make it work.  I would have taken it back, but the trip to the fabric store has now become a long trek with the closing of our main road for TWO months!!!!

A few more blocks in the batiks that I have been playing with.  The jury is still out on this one, but I will keep trying more to see if I can help it along.  At this point I hate to have it end up a UFO.

I made a couple more take along chalk boards which have been a big hit and

.... a pacifier leash, in PINK of course!!!

Lastly, a couple of weeks ago I won some metallic threads from Tonya.  Although I am not a fan of sewing with the metallics, I have found that putting them in the bobbin can give great and hassle free results.  I have been making some flower pins with them and I really like the results.  They are great for wearing or attaching to bags.

A question....how come they did not have this cute item when I had children who at home who loved using my sewing scissors????

My last P is a new phone.  Now I need to spend the next ten years learning to use it!!!!!  For years I have just had a flip up thingy and I now have a phone that assures me that I will never get lost!!!!!  Is that REALLY a good thing?  Ahhh....technology.  There is definitely a love/hate relationship here.

Happy fall y'all.

  1. I am about to hunt for the RIGHT new phone too. Sigh. I am like you - I am a creature of habit when it comes to phones, and it takes me ages to master a new one!

I freeze my peppers the same way and yes, you are right - it is wonderful to be using them through the winter months. We don't have a peach glut here though, so I have no peaches. I remember the bright yellow cling peaches from South Africa - firm ones....ah, the best!

Take along chalkboards?? I must have missed them here. I am off to trawl through the blog to see more photos!

  2. I found them. Could you possibly do a tutorial? I would love to make one for Missy. What do you use for the blackboard?

  5. That quilt is a beauty, your so talented, I love the heart lock for scissors, could of used that when my kids lived at home.
I use to freeze my extra peppers too just like you did.
In November when my contract is up I am getting myself a new cell phone I want something fun this time, but like you by the time my contract is up I have just figured it out and its time to give it up for a new one.

  6. LOL I hear you abt technology and all the things on phones now! And a scissors lock would've been great! ;-) Your Halloween bags are super cute~ why not just send a note and your photo to the rick rack maker? Have a happy day!

  7. Well I'll be, I didn't know you could freeze green peppers like that! I've tried growing peppers and although I do get a few, they don't really produce like they should. I usually only get enough to make a stir fry! lol

Those Halloween bags are so darling! What a shame about the rick rack though, that would certainly be frustrating to work with. You have been very busy making beautiful things again and I must ask, what are take along chalkboards??

Have you figured out your new phone yet? I've had mine for 4 years now and there are still some things on it that I don't understand! lol Talk to my mom about modern technology...even her answering machine scares her! hehe

I hope you're having a wonderful week my friend. Sunny and 64F today so a lovely first day of Fall. I went out to take pictures of our changing foliage this afternoon after meeting June for coffee...will post them tomorrow:-) xoxoxo

  9. Your peppers all look so yummy and the thought of fresh peach pie in the middle of winter is WONDERFUL!!! Don't give up on that batik piece...I think it is looking very nice and I have high hopes for it when you are finished with it.

  10. Peach pie on a cold January day sounds really good :) I wish I would of had a scissors lock many years ago to keep not only the kids away from my sewing scissors, but my husband. Now after 28 years of sewing, he knows not to touch them unless you only cut fabric with them!

  11. Oh, I can tell the batiks are a pain for you. I think you should pack them up in a parcel and post them to Ms Paull...lol, I really like the batiks. Lucky you to have so many peaches and peppers, they will taste wonderful in January.

  12. I use rolls of binding and get a little frustrated when it is cut and then reattached with sticky at various points! I really love the batik blocks!! And the flower is gorgeous too! I haven't gotten around to using the metalic thread again yet but when I do...I'll try out the bobbin method too. Like you weren't already busy enough with the tomatoes, lol. But what a wonderful stock to have on hand.
Hope your having a great day:)

  16. I'm wandering from blog to blog tonight and finding the most delightful things and interesting info.
Cut batik quilt. Wanda is the best, isn't she?

A totally separate subject. You left a comment on somebody's post that caught my attention. A lady was packing her bags, heading to Iowa to present some trunk shows. She went on to mention that people confuse Iowa and Idaho; or they confuse Iowa and Ohio.
Your reply--you wrote that you grew up in a small town near Waterloo. Jesup? Hudson? Gilbertville? LaPorte City? I'm just a curious gal as I'm a graduate of UNI, and a sister and a brother live in Hudson.

  17. I am so with you on the new phone issue! I got a new one about a month ago and I am still trying to figure out everything!!! Grrrrrrrr....... My nieces have been teaching me to text and that is another learning curve on retrieving the missed messages and all. I lost one Sunday after church and still don't know who was trying to get me!

A lock for scissors, now why didn't I think of that!!??? I have hidden several pair that I have never to this day found.......

Your batik looks lovely! And I love those Halloween bags!!! Do you have the instructions that you could write down for me, I would love to make the kids some bags!!! You know that you are my inspiration!

Wish I had thought of cutting up and freezing my green peppers that way. I usually chop them in my food processor in two cup amounts and then freeze them as that's what my spaghetti sauce takes but they freeze in one big clump. You can't really just grab a few for something else.

It is raining cats and dogs here this morning. My yard man just called and cancelled as he was going to clear some brush for me today but he will be here on Monday. Dad just poked his head in and said we'd better wait and do our walk later which is FINE with me!

Oh how I would love to have a peach tree, they are my favorite and also Royce's! We buy them at the store but sometimes they are so hard that they taste like cardboard. I sure enjoy them when in OR or some other spot that we go to that is in a warmer climate then here. I feel a peach pie coming soon, I've never used canned peaches I wonder how that would work.

Well must get cracking. Want to work on Miss T's quilt today as it's not an outside type day. Finished another table topper, a UFO one to use in the summertime. My sewing room needs a major cleaning!

Love to you and E!! xoxoxox

  19. Whoops! It said it didn't go though as it was too large so I clicked it again and then checked and it's in here twice! Don't know how to delete one of them, I don't see the little trash can thingy to click on!

  20. So, so industrious - and you get time to blog as well! I do like the Batik squares Mary and the bags and I do agree peaches in January will be good. For the same reason I pick blackberries (wild) and blackcurrants (farm) and strawberries (farm) to freeze for the winter. Used to grow our own blackcurrnts and strawberries in garden and lots of veg. when we had an allottment but no longer do this. Taking care of my garden is enough.

  21. Hi! I love what you've been doing this week. I only just started freezing my peppers. I love them for soup, pizza etc. And peaches--mmm! Yummy!

I just wanted to tell you that I awarded you the One Lovely Blog award (and bragged on you just a bit). :o)

  23. Wow, your garden must be wonderful. We had a lot of tomatoes and cucumbers, but that is it. It seems to have been an unsuccessful garden year for us. I am glad to see that you had a lot of peppers. I think we had one, a tiny one at that.

I love your batik quilt. It would definitely be a shame if it becomes a UFO.

  24. Your endless supply of creativity and ambition just blows me away. The rick rack though! Pathetic!

We have had three flats of wonderful western slope peaches, but just eat them - I am so very lazy when it comes to freezing stuff - and canning - not for me. You're amazing.

The Halloween bags are so cute!

  25. You remind me of me! So busy all the time. I just need to work on some sewing time. Guess what I did to my phone? Washed it in the washing machine. That is a whole other story.

  27. You are so creative! I really love the halloween bags! I like that quilt too, I don't think it looks like a UFO!

Thanks for the hint on freezing peppers, I'll be doing that!
