Elephants and Giraffes, Oh My

Several years ago I participated in the Elephants on Parade QAL and made the cute quilt for our last grandchild.  The quilt was so much fun to make and made me a follower of Sew Fresh Quilts.  Lorna has another really cute pattern called Giraffes in a Row.  With another new grandbaby due any day now, I made the giraffes to go along with the elephants.

Giraffe by giraffe, this quilt came together quickly.  With each new giraffe, I was certain that one was my favorite.

I even added a purple polka dot one to the back because they were so much fun.  I still think my favorite is orange.  Which one is yours?

My giraffes were helped along with fabric from Wendy.  I recently won a flat rate box full of solids from Wendy.  I had been really struggling with finding the "right" green and the perfect one was found in the box she sent.  How much fabric do you think one can fit into a flat rate box?  Just look at this.  I think if I travel again I want Wendy to pack my suitcases for me.

My Temperature Quilt continues to grow.  Sadly, I had to go back to the green this week when our low one night dropped down to 39*.  I thought we were done with that stuff.

Ramona is also doing a Temperature quilt.  Her blocks are a great combination of colors - a mix between my sister in Alaska and mine in California.

We've had several birthdays in the family this week.  It's always fun to join in the celebrations.

This is a special time of the year when the little ones make their First Communions.  We have two grandchildren making theirs in the next few weeks, including this one.  The veil that she will wear is the one that her mom wore, and that I wore, when we made our First Communions.  Like me, it is officially an antique!!  How quickly the years pass!

We've been battling the Influenza B in the family this week.  It has not been fun.  I'm ready for flu season to be over.

30 Blocks in 30 Days

Have you been following the 30 blocks in 30 days blog hop?  With each passing day of the hop, I think how much I would love to do a full quilt with each block.  Carla is using such wonderful fabrics with each block and I am sure you will be just as excited as I have been about sewing up a few.  Each of these bocks makes a great stand alone quilt, but I think one of each would make an incredible quilt too.  

The block that I have sewn for the blog hop is called Bounce.  Taking into consideration the Tigerlily color of the year, I chose a fabric in that color.  My second color is a low volume in a neutral print.  The blocks went up quickly and in no time at all I had a finished top.  

Instead of batting in this quilt, I added a soft minky type fabric to the back and quilted it together.  I love the nice drape and feel of the piece.  It will make a wonderfully soft and cuddly baby quilt.

About Time

Guess it is about time to catch up on this ole' blog.  The days and weeks tend to slip past so quickly.  I need to look at my photos to see what I've done.  Life, itself, has been busy so there has not been a lot of sewing going on around here.

With our thirtieth grandbaby arriving in a few short weeks, I have been working on the quilt.  We do not know the sex so I have decided to do Lorna's Giraffe Quilt.  I love this pattern and it has been such fun to stitch.

I was struggling with my greens as nothing I had seemed to do the trick.  Fortunate as it was, I was a recent winner of Wendy's box of scraps.  Inside I found the perfect green for it!

My Temperature Quilt is coming along too.  We had some lovely warm days this week so it was fun to stitch those colors into it.  Just look at this week.  I even got to insert that lovely red when the high hit 97* on Monday.

Adding it to the first few months of the year, it looks like this.  I'm glad to get the greens behind me.  I am enjoying watching my sister's quilt progress at IG @alaskanquilter.  Her Alaskan colors are so different from mine and they are gorgeous.

This month's Block Lotto block is call NoonLight.  I made two blocks for it and may do more as the month progresses.  We will see.  I was one of the winners of last months Savannah blocks and I am having so much fun seeing blocks arrive in the mail.  

Another Mystery quilt that I will be working on over the next few months is called So Dearly QAL.  It is hosted by Gosia at Quilts My Way.  This is an interesting paper pieced QAL and I have no idea what it will become.
