Still Waiting

Although the British have their wee one, we remain on baby wait here.  This is a stubborn little one as this is the longest our daughter has ever carried a baby.  Now it just feels like she is overdue, but the due date is actually tomorrow ;-)

While sticking close to home as we await the delivery, I have managed to work on a bit of sewing.  My Just Takes Two quilt is back from the quilters and I am pleased with the results.  Logan did a nice job custom quilting all the different blocks.  I was unsure as to what to do with the binding as I thought the brown would be too "framed" looking.  In the end I used a two sided binding so it appears to have a piping around the quilt.  It was a bit more work to make the binding, but I love the way it turned out.  I will definitely use the technique again.

I also made a few of the Japanese x&+ bee blocks.

With all four of our sons away on vacation this week we have been busy watching over little ones and big dogs.  I think I will take children any day.

We find it great fun to feed the dog and he is just at our level!

There was some bird drama at one of the feeders this week as this poor hummer got its foot stuck in the feeder.  After helping to release, the little thing flew off apparently none the worse for wear.

Our baby hawk is also making its appearance in the yard this week.  It certainly makes his presence known with his screeching in the mornings.  The rabbit population seems to be under control thanks to the hawk and his parents.

  1. Hopefully the baby arrives soon :-) You certainly have your hands full :-) What fun!! I love your quit. What is a two sided binding? It does look just like piping. I have put piping on quilts in the past and although it looks nice it can be a pain. How did you do it?

  13. Mary your quilt is fabulous. I love the two tone binding. That sounds very interesting. Do you have a link to a tut for it?
I also love your blocks. Hope the baby comes soon. Geez, I remember baby sitting my daughters dogs two weekends in a row. One is a great pyranese and the other a beagle. It was so hard to walk them together. Have fun.

  14. Very striking quilt and I love the binding. I'm not sure what two sided binding is though. You have your hands full with 2 and 4 legged critters. Perhaps your next excitement will be the newest critter of the two legged kind!

  15. I love the binding ... I think it makes the binding "pop" - but not too much to draw attention away from the quilt. Hope that baby comes soon!

  17. I love your post again Mary. Your quilt is to die for! I have promised an aqua and brown quilt to a neighbor; but, I'm not thinking of being so ambitious.

  18. Wow your Just Takes2 is just stunning! The double sided binding does indeed give it an added piping effect....I cannot see how you accomplish all you do; grandchild sitter, dog sitter, quilt creator, and you are also in numerous swaps....you are definitely "Super Woman"! Well one plus for the dogs is that they keep the floor under the babies high chairs clean!

Looks like you have your hands full! Good that the baby hawk didn't feast on the poor hummingbird while he was around!
    Cheers!

  25. Oh I know how you feel! My daughter-in-law was told by her doctor she would deliver her second baby within 24 hours, so she called me and told me to drive out there if I wanted to be there when the baby was born. Adam was born 17 days later!!! Hoping with you that the baby comes soon and lets you all love on it!!!

I love your + and X blocks! I'm so wanting to start some of my own, but I've got to finish up a few things first!
