It just makes for more sewing time....that's the good side. Right????
There are lots of little ones starting to loose their teeth around here so Tooth Fairy pillows were needed. I actually made four, but forgot to take pictures of the blue and green one before sending them to their new owners.
Pockets on the back for the teeth and what the good fairy leaves in exchange. |
I FINALLY finished piecing my Easy Street. I love this quilt and it is huge. I laid it out on the grass, but the wind kept blowing up the edges. It ended up at 94" square. I know it looks like a rectangle in the photo, but it is square.
There are so many fun quilt-alongs happening right now and it is hard to avoid joining in on them. I started working on the String of Pearls and have my steps 1 through 3 completed. This one should go up quickly.
Since a lot of time is spent in the garden these days, I thought I would share some of the flowers with you.
My gardenias are blooming prolifically right now so I love to bring them into the house. They fill the room with the most delightful fragrance.
The hibiscus are also pretty right now. As you can see, they grow well in our climate.
My favorite bush. |
My job this week is canning the apricots. They are at the point of needing to be picked before the birds beat me to them. A day in the house and they will be ready to go.
Have you ever enjoyed a "donut peach"? Ours are also just getting ripe. These are flat little things (thus the name "donut") and they are white in color on the inside. Their flavor is amazing!
Lastly....our baby quail have grown up and are now as big as their parents. We just love listening to them and having them come to the feeders.
Have you been enjoying the Super Moon this weekend? It is really pretty. Makes me want to put on the old record album of Henry Mancini - Concert for Young Lovers. I think I'll go see if I still have it!
Have a great week and I will be back visiting when my computer gets sorted out.
Beautiful flowers! And I have to say, Easy Street doesn't look all that easy to me. Back when I was loosing teeth, we just put our teeth is a glass of water for the Tooth Fairy. How awesome to have a special little pillow, made with love.
ReplyDeleteMary.....I just love your quilt too!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is just gorgeous....the little pillows are way too cute.
Mary I love your tooth fairy pillows. I have been meaning to make some but like you I am without a laptop and that is where my embroidery programs are at. I love your apricots and peaches. I wish I could grow some apricots. I grow loquats which look like apricots but a but bitter. Did you grow your tree from a seed or buy?
ReplyDeleteYour tooth fairy pillows are beautiful! So sorry to hear about your computer...we replaced 2 at the beginning of the new year. Your quilt is gorgeous! And queen size?Regards for a happy week!
ReplyDeleteLove your little pillows, and that Easy Street is amazing! I've been watching Christa's latest QAL...looks like you are keeping up with it. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYour favorite hibiscus looks like it has had the ends of the petals dipped in dye. Really neat. I love hibiscus too but the closest I get to it here is Rose of Sharon which I think is in the same family.
ReplyDeletesuch cute Tooth Fairy cushions, lucky little ones..
ReplyDeleteYou are doing lots of lovely SAL..
Sew nice to see all your pretty flowers and also the quails wondering in your garden.
What cute toothfairy pillows! Love the flower photos, can almost smell them. Our cherries are ripening and the birds are enjoying them.
ReplyDeleteSo much going on! The Easy Street quilt looks great!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt looks amazing! Will you quilt it yourself?
ReplyDeleteVery productive as always over at your house. You would need a shortcut for all those tooth fairies are coming fast! Love those pillows, so cute! Apricots, oh how wonderful! Ours are in the jars. We don't eat them fast enough! I saw our super moon last night. It was big and bright. I could almost touched it - Enjoy your busy week - Love Nat
ReplyDeleteSOrry about your computer issues, what a pita! Love your Easy street! You said "a day in the house, and they'll be ready to go" do you let your apricots sit a day, before canning them? if so, why? I have an Aprium tree (part apricot, part plum) that has produce for the first time for us this year. Never dealt with apricots before, so was just curious :)
ReplyDeleteLovely post and I hope your computer is soon fixed.
ReplyDeleteIt can be so frustrating when our computers go out. It looks like you've made the best use of time by quilting. Love those Tooth Fairy pillows.
ReplyDeleteI feel your computer pain! I have never heard of a donut peach but peaches are my favorite fruit of Summer. Your Easy Street is absolutely amazing. You have some lucky grandkids to have such a crafty grandma.
ReplyDeleteYou are always so busy! So will you be quilting your Easy Street? Looks like a big one for sure!My hibiscus has not bloomed yet. I have to bring it in when cool days set in. It has been out a good while now. DH bought some Eastern Peaches at market that were so sweet and yummy. No putting up much this year. Hope next year we are back on track. Well we still have figs and pears but no garden or other fruits. With the old farm place under contract will be no grapes for us and we need to make more beds here.
ReplyDeleteI bet you do have some sweeties needing them cute pillas!! You are such a sweet Grandmama!
I fear the computer crashes! Hope your stuff was backed up and you haven't lost anything!!!
ReplyDeleteThose tooth fair pillows are so cute! You are one more talented and obviously busy woman!
I think everything beautiful grows in your climate....your flowers are gorgeous!
I have never seen a donut peach......or a peach that was white inside.
Your quail are so pretty and I know you enjoy them!
Anything that makes more time for sewing is pretty good in my book. I've had to wean myself away from the computer so I can quilt more. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love your flowers ... especially the hibiscuses. We always buy one (as an annual) to put out on our deck, but this year we didn't. We usually buy one around Mother's Day, and this year we were in Florida. I miss having one out on the deck.
I've never heard of a donut peach ... sounds yummy.
What a super cute idea for tooth fairy pillows! And apricot preserves? So yummy!
ReplyDeleteI love this post Mary. So diverse. Love the pillows and your quilt. It looks big. I take an organic produce box and got a fair amount of apricots this week and hope I can use them up. Not enough to can and a lot for one person.
ReplyDeleteThose donut peaches are amazing. I only discovered them last summer! And we had hibiscus growing at home in Cape Town, so your photos evoke so many memories.
ReplyDeleteI am also using an antique desk top computer and it drives me crackers. You have my sympathy! Judging by those stunning tooth fairy pillows, you don't need to worry about increasing your embroidery machine skills - they are so gorgeous. Maybe I should start thinking about one for Missy. She is starting school in September, so it won't be long before the teeth start wobbling!
great little pillows! my computer desk top is sorry as every thing. slow and hangs up and it just came home from the shop not long ago
ReplyDeleteI love the tooth fairy pillows. I'm sure all the little people in your life just love them too. Ours have reached the age of braces, and granddaughter came home with hers last Friday. Turquoise, to match her t shirt :-)
ReplyDeletewhat an informative post! First, I love the tooth fairy pillows and your Easy Street is magnificent! ....I can smell the gardenias from here....they are probably my favorite flower fragrance. I was lucky enough to be asked to pick all of Irene's apricots while they were gone and not one of them made it to be canned! Me and the turtle ate most of them and I shared some with my friend, Ursula. What unusual peaches and your quail friends are so sweet. I have some that come to my front yard but they won't come near the back.....and the Super Moon???? Well full moons at work at the hospital usually bring babies and "crazies" but the Super Moon this weekend brought so many traumas that we should have worn skates to work! I won't be looking forward to another one unless it's on my day off!
ReplyDeleteMary,
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your laptop. I hope you are back online soon.
Oh my - you are just my hero! Is there anything you can't do? You make gorgeous, you keep a lovely garden, and on top of all that, you are a great cook!!!! Not to mention a loving mother and grandmother!!
WOW, you've gotten a lot done. Love the tooth fairy pillows, those are too cute. And that Easy Street quilt is stunning.
ReplyDeleteYour Easy Street turned out fabulous! and I love the tooth fairy pillows! I have been traveling all month of June and just got back from meeting my girls and the grandchildren in Georgia so I could bring Allie home with me. Parker pulled his first tooth while we were there. he pulled it himself! he would not even discuss allowing me or his mommy to do it. lol
ReplyDeleteWhat fun the pillows. The apricots look gorgeous. Strangely I saw my first doughnut peach today on a friends post on facebook.
ReplyDeleteQuails interesting to see.
