Can This Day End Yet???

The day is going downhill in a hurry and I wish it was over.
Our neighborhood is very quiet and we seldom ever hear of any "events" going on. People don't lock doors and neighbors watch out for one another. We love it. Shortly before six this morning we noticed a sheriff car slowly going up the street. Interesting because it did not come back right away and there is no other outlet. Fast forward several hours when I went to run a few errands. This is what I found when I opened my car door.

Terrible me....I was furious with my DH because he had taken the car fishing for a few days with the grandchildren. For the life of me I could not imagine what he was searching for in the glove compartment and WHY would he leave everything out????? Then the lightbulb moment hit me. Yep....someone had entered the vehicle overnight. Bummer!!! Fortunately, we do not leave valuables in the car, but they managed to lift our phone chargers and our Garmin charger.

The "nice" sheriff arrived, took the report and told me that three other cars had also been burglarized last night. Lovely!!!

The day was already going to be bad because I had made an appointment to have our very old cat put down at 11:30. SIGH! It is time as he is rail thin, not eating and just not enjoying his life anymore. It was a difficult decision and I was not looking forward to the day.

After that....I will still have my errands to run - red eyes and all.

  1. Oh Mary! I'm so sorry. And poor kitty. We have one that looks kind of like that except he's very young, only a year or a little more. I'm afraid Anna's dear dog is beating him up. We've been letting him in the house to eat. I hope your day gets better and they catch the bad guy.

  7. I'm so sorry to hear of your sad trip to the vet. Decisions like that are one of the hardest I think we have to make. My heart breaks for you.
The one bright note on your car getting broken into is that they didn't have to break the window to do it. A few months back our van was broken into throught the drivers door. Like you, they got a couple of chargers, and of all things, took a pair of over the counter reading glasses. Maybe they wanted to see what they were stealing. I hope your day gets better!

  8. So sorry to hear this-although we know it's the right thing to do, putting a pet to sleep is never easy.
Wishing you a much better tomorrow.

  9. My heart just fell into my stomach with a thump when I read about your kitty and having to take and put him down today. I'm so thankful we don't have to allow our pets to suffer when we know the quality of life isn't good still yet it hurts like crazy because they are family! I've been in your shoes and thought the decision is difficult we do it out of love. Bless your heart today dear friend....better to have had kitty than not...even though so hard today.

Have a nice rest of the day.

  15. I'm so sorry! We've had that same thing happen in our neighborhood. My car is usually locked, though my husband "forgets" when he drives it. His truck he rarely locks so they stole his gps. It seems they target neighborhoods and be aware that often after they've been there once they sometimes return in a couple of weeks. blessings, marlene

  23. What a way to start a day that was going to be hard for you anyway. You have my thoughts and prayers. It is never easy to have to have an animal member of the family put to rest.

  24. Oh.....that is terrible, both the car and the cat...I hope your day is better today.

  25. So sorry to hear about your kitty. As a fellow animal lover I know how hard it is to make the decision that needs to be made. You did the right thing, when there is no quality of life it's not fair to keep them going. I have walked this road too many times but always in my heart know I made the right decision too.

So glad the break in wasn't any worse then it was. Like someone else wrote it's good they didn't break a window to get into the vehicle. We had that happen here in our little quiet neighborhood about 4 or 5 years ago but thankfully our cars were in the garage. Just didn't think we needed to lock anything here either.

I don't know how I missed two posts! I know I have been spending more time at the sewing machine but I didn't mean to get so behind with everything else!

Your roses and cacti are gorgeous and I love your pergola area for outside eating. So nice! Beautiful communion picture, you must have been so proud! Love the shot of the wee one in your sewing scraps!! We have some alpacas near here that I want to take T and D to see too.

My week has been sooooooooo busy with two and three kiddos. Poor R had to eat his beets out of a measuring cup last night at dinner as I didn't have any clean bowls! ha! He didn't say a thing, he knows how busy I have been! ha!

Well I'd better publish this before Blogger eats it. Love and big hugs from Maine! xoxoxxo

PS Did one of your grandsons have a red shirt on with MAINE on it????

  30. Oh, gosh.....things are changing in our neighborhoods! I've always kept my garage door up and my kitchen door unlocked, but I'm beginning to rethink the wisdom of doing that.

So sorry about your cat.......we have one that is nearing that time too and his sister died a couple of years ago. So sad to have our little companions go. Thinking about you and hoping your whole week gets better!!!

  31. Oh I am so sorry for you and your kitty. That is so sad. Now as far as the car...that just makes me mad. Hard working people like all of us and then you have people like that with no respect. I am praying for you today.

  34. What a challenging day you had yesterday Mary. I'm sending you big hugs and to let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Not nice to have your car broken in but glad to hear that not much was taken.

I completely understand your sadness and pain with regards to kitty but the time has come for kitty to cross over to rainbow bridge. With time you will remember all the good memories.

    Take care.

  35. Oh, you poor thing, these are equal first for terrible things to deal with! As usual the silver lining is...it's only a car...not your home or family, but still an invasion.
And would you like me to mail you a kitten LOL?? So sorry about your cat.
    Love Tracey

  40. Dearest Mary,

My heart goes out to you, having to have your precious kitty put down:-( Pets are so much a part of the family and losing one is never easy. I know it's small comfort but you made the right decision. I've never believed in letting an animal suffer just because the owner can't bear to let it go. My heart and prayers are with you, dear friend.

Oh dear, you got your car broken into that same day?! That's horrible, you certainly didn't need that!! It's such a shame that we can no longer feel safe unless we lock everything up, I really don't know what has become of society. No one seems to have respect for anything anymore. I do hope they can catch whoever did it but even if they do, they usually get off with a slap on the wrist.

I do pray and hope that the next few days will be much better for you. Sending big hugs. xoxoxo

  41. What a bad day! I hope things got better for you! So sorry about your cat :-( We had to do the same with our dog years ago. I know what a difficult decision it is. You are in my thoughts.

  42. Oh, my goodness! That really was a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. The break-in of the car makes you feel violated, as I recall when it happened to me at the zoo.

I am so sorry about your cat. That has to be so hard. We had both cars put down within months because of kidney issues - they were both kids' cats which we had taken in. Dwight took it very hard, especially with Judas.

Thanks for your kind comments on today's post.

  43. So sorry about your kitty...and isn't it just a littly unnerving to have your car gone through? Probably kids in the neighborhood? Hope your week got better!

  44. oh.. I'm so sorry about your cat! It's such a difficult decision to take. You never know if it's the right time, always having in the back of your mind that thought of "maybe he'll get a bit better and we can wait...", so so sad. I love marmalade cats...
About your car being burglarized, it's so annoying, but it cold have been worse. At least you still have your car and there wasn't anything gone that could not be replaceable. We don't lock doors or cars here either, but we live on a tiny island, it's different...

  45. I just read this post, M, and I am SO sorry your day was so awful. Then I read your next post and all about going into the desert to see the flowers, and I know how beautiful that can be.
Your quilts and blocks are as beautiful as ever - the road track one is gorgeous! I hope you are having a happy weekend too....
