Let It Snow

I know that the last thing that a lot of you want to see is snow – or pictures of snow.  We, on the other hand, had the delightful experience of snow for our annual “snow” trip.  When we arrived it was summer like weather with temps near 70*.  The only snow to be seen was on the mountain top.

The day afterwards it started to snow.   It snowed and snowed and snowed.  We all loved watching the flakes falling throughout the evening and then all the next day.  In total we got about 12” of fresh snow and it changed our scenery to a winter wonderland.

The Herd

I just couldn’t stop myself after getting that green frog made.  I love the way this quilt top turned out.  The splashes of bright color are so much fun thrown in with the black, white and grey.

My birds are a variation from the pattern as I added some very skinny legs.

My frog has personality.  It is pestering the baby elephant.  Years ago we were in Colorado Springs and went to a pub that is known for flying bees.   I’ve held on to this bee for all these years and thought this was the perfect finish for the frog.

New York Beauty and Elephants

Now that’s a title for you!!  Happy Friday the 13th.

I have a very talented “baby” sister.  She was an art major in college, but worked as a juvenile probation officer until she retired a couple of years ago.  She and her husband built a beautiful home and retired to Homer, Alaska.  She now enjoys her crafts in her new studio with spectacular views of the bay.  Everything she does is magical and done to perfection.  She has been working on a New York Beauty queen size quilt for her daughter and I begged her to let me share it on my blog.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Em's quilt

Isn’t it stunning?  I love the greens and golds that she is using.  I am trying to convince her to start a blog to share her creations.  Don’t you think that she needs to do that?????   During the summer months she works as a landscape artist so I am sure she would have a lot to share with the blogging world.  Wouldn’t you love to see her creativity?

My herd of elephants is slowly growing here.  It has been a rather crazy week, but I did finish my first row of the Elephant Parade.  I love the splash of green that the frog brings to the piece.

I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine’s Day this weekend.  Ours will be quiet with a special dinner cooked at home.  I’m pretty sure chocolate will be included.

Here…There….

The last few weeks have  been crazy here and there.  It is always a busy time of the year so I’ve come to expect it.  Unfortunately, there is not a lot of time left for sewing.

A few days after returning from our trip to the snow we headed off to the Florida Keys.  For my husband it is a business trip, but for me it is a time to meet up with treasured friends and relaxation.   Needless to say, the sewing machine and I were separated so there isn’t much to show from this end.

The last few days I have been playing with elephants.  (For some reason Henry Mancini’s Baby Elephant Walk keeps playing in my mind as I stitch these.)  I love this QAL and could not resist joining in on the fun.  The splash of color really makes a statement and I have always love elephants and frogs.

The influenza has really hit hard in our area this past week and many of the little ones and their parents have been hit with it.  We’ve been helping out as much as possible all the while trying to avoid the germs.  This week is forecast to be warm so I am eager to open the house up and air it all out…..cook all of those bugs.

Since there isn’t a lot of excitement here, I’ll share a picture from FL.  DH and I have always enjoyed the raw oysters that we get there.  We had an unexpected guest in one of the oysters that we ate this year.

I was hoping for a pearl, but a live and wiggly crab is all we got.  Guess they were really fresh.
