Cluck, Cluck

My sister-in-law has been a chicken fan for years.  She would love to have boutique chickens strolling through her yard, merrily clucking away.  My brother does not have the same desire so she has to settle for chicken decor in their home - nothing alive!

We had the opportunity to celebrate our fall birthdays at the beach last week and I gifted her a "sassy chick for a sassy chick".

The pattern was from Fat Cat Patterns and I used Lara Buccella's Crafted Applique technique to applique the chicken pieces.  I love this technique as there are no frayed edges and the fabric has such a soft "feel" to it.

While we were all together to celebrate birthdays we took a side trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo.  It is such a nice little zoo and they had just introduced their newest baby giraffe.

Isn't it sweet?

I wonder how long I could stand like this - much less, take a nap.

Nice kitty....... good thing there was glass between us.

Of course we had to drive down to the docks and see what was being brought in for the daily catch.  This boat delivered 150# of sea cucumbers - slimy looking things, but I didn't get a picture.  ;-(  They looked like chopped off octopus tentacles.

I watched three little ones yesterday and one little one during "quiet time" yesterday managed to push enough buttons on the alarm clock to set off the alarms last night.  It was invigorating to know that it was 12:00 a.m, AND 4:00a.m.!!!!  Since we never use the alarms, we had to fully awaken (both times) and locate the eyeglasses to figure out how to turn them off.  I will have to be sure and thank the children when I see them.  ;-)

  1. Ha, ha. Sorry, that's way too funny. Little ones love their buttons. Our answering machine says "the machine is off" and "the machine is on" and those little ones love listening to it. Drives me crazy but at least I'm not awakened at night.
Flamingos have always been a favourite of mine and I adore that chicken quilt. I'm sure your sister got a kick out of it.

  2. Cute chick quilt! Quite sure SIL loved it too. You had me chuckling over the alarm! Grands love buttons and things. I recall after a visit from a very young grandson the knobs on several drawers were unscrewed came off in my hands! He had been very busy!!

  3. Love the Sassy CHick!! No little ones to surprise, but one day I thought my Cable box had gone haywire only to realize that the remote was under the blanket Moe was laying on and every time he moved, he changed channels - adjusted volumn - rewound - fast forward - picture in picture. Clever cat!!

  7. Your story about the alarms cracked me up--I'm still smiling. It's like going to a hotel, and the alarm goes off and you know you didn't set it. (Twice! That's some talented grandchild). I love your chicken and can't wait until my book arrives here, so I can try her technique. It's such a great little wallhanging. And by the way, Leisa made bread yesterday and I'm making some today! (Your influence just keeps on going!)

  17. Love the Sassy chick. Just perfect for a chicken lover. I could just picture you and hubby searching for the OFF button in the wee small hours. Made me smile. I have a grandson who loved to do things like that on purpose. He's almost 20, and I don't think he has grown out of it yet. That's one cute baby giraffe. They are my favourite of all the wild creatures.

  24. Hahaha Mary - little ones and button pushing... you definitely have to watch out for them. Eden sent her first text message to her uncle the other day. It just said "1". a couple of hours later, he sent one back that just said "2", LOL.

What in the world do they use sea cucumbers for? People don't eat them do they? (Gag)

That cute chicken quilt is something to crow about! I love the expression you managed to add and the black and white fabrics for feathers!
