Rainy Monday

Wow....what happened to our hot, windy fire season?  It happens to be cold and raining here today and it is suppose to continue for the next four days.  What an interesting year it has been weather wise.

We were in Atlanta for a week with DH's business and I really missed reading blogs and hearing what everyone was doing.  The weather was just fabulous and allowed us lots of time for walking around and seeing the sights.

The hotel was located in downtown Atlanta so it was easy to access the many fun places to see including Centennial Park, the Aquarium and the Coca Cola Bottling Company.

A gorgeous, clear day to be out walking.

Beautiful sculptures around every bend.

Shopping center near the hotel.

Centennial Park with the Olympic Torches.

Look at these huge bottles.  They were beautiful.

We had a rental car so we were able to head out to Stone mountain for a visit.  It is the largest bas relief carving in the world, even bigger than Mt. Rushmore.  The Confederate Memorial Carving depicts three Confederate leaders of the Civil War, President Jefferson Davis and Generals Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee.  As well it includes their favorite horse, Blackjack, Traveller and Little Sorrel.  The entire carving covers about three acres.  It was quite impressive.

This was the inside of the hotel.  Isn't it impressive?

We also went to visit Margaret Mitchell's apartment and to the Botanical Gardens.  The gardens were stunning so I will share pictures of them in another post.

Needless to say, a lot of sewing did not happen.  I did finish off the hand stitching on my Raggedy block for this month.  I am not ready for block #4.

We returned on Thursday evening and had out of town company for the weekend so there was not much time to catch up on blogging.

Our niece was married on Saturday and we all enjoyed celebrating with them as they start their new life together.  They are such a cute couple.

Yesterday we had  a big family brunch here for all the kids, grandkids and friends and I was too busy to take pictures.  You will just have to imagine what it looked like to have 35+ people here - inside - on a rainy day. Needless to say....today is cleaning, changing beds and trying to catch up on the laundry after being away for a week.

  2. What a lovely trip to Atlanta - we've been to Georgia several times, but no sightseeing in Atlanta.

I love your niece's dress - I am weary of strapless wedding gowns.

  7. How exciting to be at niece's wedding. I wish I could have gone to my niece's wedding, but we had family events going on ourselves. I love the pictures you shared! Thanks for letting us in on your trip. The Coca-cola factory was fascinating!

  8. What a great trip! That's one place they have never sent us and I would love to do some exploring there. The carving is magnificent!!!!! Glad you had good weather.

Congratulations to your niece and new husband. May they have many, many happy years together. I too like her dress, very classy looking!

35 inside?! And no basement???? Yikes! It sure seems like you have had a lot of rain this year!

I finished T's and D's Halloween bags, they are cute, I used Snoopy fabric. Thank you again for sending the pattern! I didn't have any ric rac so used a decorative stitch on my machine instead for the extra strength.

R just got home from a dinner function. I had a bowl of cereal as I don't like to cook when he isn't here to eat it. He has something tomorrow night, Wednesday night and Thursday night. I have a new chicken recipe I want to make so I guess it will have to wait until Friday night.

Very windy and cool here today. I was going to ride Lil' Bud but his feet are due to be done on Wednesday so I didn't want to ride him with his feet long. Also hunting season has started so that always makes me nervous even though our land is posted. We wear lots of orange when we go out and the horses do too. I must get a picture of that.

Well I'm back in the sewing mode so guess I will go down and see what I can get into. I'm looking for some directions to a Christmas quilt kit.......grrrrrrrr.......wish me luck finding it!

    Love to you both! xoxox

Those Coke bottles are so beautifully decorated.
Congratulations to your niece and her husband!
It's discouraging to see the forecast when it's a gloomy one, isn't it? I hope your weather brightens up and gives you some warmth and sunshine soon. Our day began with heavy frost and very chilly temps, but the sun is shining and we're promised a high close to 60º. Rain on Thurs, Fri, and the weekend, with snow in the mix on Friday. Ugh!
