Bits and pieces of sewing have been happening this week. There was way too much mending as the school uniforms were in need - need of lengthened skirts, hemmed pants, replacing missing buttons and darning sweater holes - all in an attempt to get a bit more use of them. Mending cuts into quilting time too. ;-(
I did get my tree skirt quilted and cut into a circle, but will wait to show it until the binding is finished. Next week is the reveal of the Shadow Block Mini QAL. I worked on getting mine finished over the weekend. A sneak peak.....
Week three of the baby cockatiels. They are growing into their feet. The pinfeathers are growing like crazy and they will soon look like real birds. Several have started climbing to the low perches and are eating seeds now. I'm sure the parents are glad to have less feeding to do.
Summer nights at the Hollywood Bowl are always amazing. The music by the L.A. Philharmonic was incredible.
Another fun event in blogland this coming week is the annual Perfectly Pleasing Pincushion Parade. It's a great show each year and there are some wonderful prizes as well. Be sure to check it out HERE.
Welcome September!!
I used to love summer, but then Riverside's heat has been scorching this past two years. I wish I had your wistfulness, but I'm always a sucker for the "bers" as my daughter calls them: September, October, November and December.
ReplyDeleteYou are a busy lass with mending, cockatiels and the shadow project, and it looks like you are adding pincushions, too! I like the fact that we have many sewing projects we can turn to to keep ourselves interested and engaged.
Welcome to the BERS!
Busy, busy as usual. All sounds fun!
ReplyDeleteThose cockatiels are so funny looking! I've never seen them that young. Alex keeps lobbying to get another one...or another hedgehog....or both...
ReplyDeleteThe birdie babies remind me of Iago, from Aladdin, LOL. Wouldn't it be funny if you could each then to say some Iago lines? "Look at this! I;m so ticked off that I'm molting! ;)
ReplyDeleteYour shadow block will be fun to see in the quilt. Is it sort of an I Spy theme?
Autumn is my very favorite season... so there is no kicking and screaming going on here.
Sorry for the typos Mary - I think I need to go to bed. It should say *teach *them and *I'm.
ReplyDeleteThe wee birds are starting to look cute!!! You've been kept busy with all that mending, good on you :-) Yur block is intriguing!! I'm enjoying the slow move here into Spring - our fire's gone out today for the first time in a few months!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to Fall - my favorite season. Babies are still looking a little vulture-like.
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhh Mary....where does time go? I like fall, as is easier to work outside, but I miss Summer already!
ReplyDeleteI'm right there with you as far as being dragged into fall goes. Fall means winter is around the corner and I am a summer girl! Your shadow quilt sure looks like it will be fun. Can't wait to see your finished tree skirt.
ReplyDeleteFall is my favorite season, always has been, but especially after the hot dry summer we had here. I love the harvest season, the gathering-in, the gorgeous colors of the sugar maples and deep bronzes of the oak trees, the crisp air and bright blue skies. Far too fleeting though. Your shadow block looks like a fun beginning for an I-spy quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm a summer girl too! But I'm surrounded by autumn lovers, and they all make fun of me when I cry about summer leaving. I love all the colors of fall and the cooler temps, but I just hate that it means winter is just around the corner! Mending is something that never gets done at my house it seems. My husband gave me a pair of pants to repair a broken seam - it took me a year to get them back to him! (They didn't fit him anymore LOL!!!)
ReplyDeleteI prefer the summer, too. I don't mind early fall (the first half of September) because it's still warm. Given how time has flown so far this year, it'll be winter before we know it!
ReplyDeleteI love the Fall weather...not too cold, not too hot. I can't wait for it to get here! Those birds still look like vultures, but they are adorable. :O)
ReplyDeleteYou are such a great Mum and MIL helping out with all the mending etc....
ReplyDeleteYour blocks interesting and I look forward to seeing your Christmas Tree finished...
The birds are growing quickly and I'm sure the parents are pleased...
Yep...time is a flying.... I love the fall...
ReplyDeleteHard to believe we are into September already!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see more of your Shadow Block quilt.
I love the summer too, hate to see it end. You're always so busy and accomplish so much. I don't know how you do it. Cute little birds.
ReplyDeleteSummer is my favorite season also and this year it definitely passed too quickly. Fall is in the air and the leaves and acorns are dropping everywhere. Your little birdies are becoming independent...good job by mommy and daddy birds. BBack to School and I didn't buy any new Crayolas this year. Seems I already have a few boxes that I will be sharing with my September Sister Swarm. It begins this evening!
ReplyDeleteAwww, I think they are cute now, feathers or not :)
ReplyDeleteYour birds are hilarious! They look like little turkeys. I have a bag of mending to do too. I dread it. Fall and spring are my favorites but winter runs close behind. There's just more rest in the winter. Thank you for visiting my blog. I'm trying to do better. I think I'm back into it now.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful medley! The little ones do look quite funny :)
