Spring Sewing

I love sewing at this time of the year.  I have the windows and doors opened in my sewing room and enjoy hearing the birds busy chirping away outside.

We've had two granddaughters with birthdays this week so I have done a bit of sewing for their gifts.   This little dress will be a nice,  cool summer dress for a toddler and I love the fabrics.  Oh, to be to be able to wear all of these ruffles!!!

Another granddaughter loves skirts so I made her a sweet summer skirt in colors she likes.

For years we have had one of the "box" televisions in our family room.  We had a cabinet actually made for the area to fit the TV.  That was about 18 years ago.  The television worked fine and we saw no need to update to a fancy new one as long as it was still working.  I think I dreaded it because it involved doing something with "the cabinet".  Well....the speakers finally went out on the old box and the time to replace it had come.  I am glad it is done, but what a mess it was when undergoing the process.  In the end, we decided to mount the new TV on a swing arm so it sits on the outside of the cabinet.  It is not perfect, but it beats remaking the entire cabinet.  Note to self.....technology changes too quickly to make cabinets that last much longer.

I've been working on a few projects for upcoming blog hops.  The first one is for the mug rug hop called April Showers.  My day is the 18th so be sure to check back then to see what has been occupying my time lately, but there are delightful mug rugs being shown each day.  Hop over and check it out.

Go and enjoy the weekend!!!!

  1. You are so lucky to have the windows opened and to hear the birds singing. Only a few days ago we were enjoying spring and now we have been hit by the nasty winter storm that has much of the US in it's grips as well.

Your sewing efforts look great and will be very much appreciated.

I'm with you on the technology and we did the same thing with our TV. Why get rid of something that works. Ours lasted 22 years and when the new one came it also didn't quite fit the existing cabinet. So a few careful cuts here and there and it worked.

Enjoy your spring weather and please send some our way ;-).

  3. Love the dress and skirt!!! Those grands will love them too!

Oh, these new flat screens that are so big.......we had a huge tv cabinet with book cases to match.....we just had to get rid of the cabinet and buy a low one to put the tv on. Had to do that in our bedroom too! Sigh!

  5. That little sundress is just precious! Glad to see your fix for the flat screen tv. I hope our old one never dies, because we recently measured the opening in the cabinet and we would need a mini of one of those awful flat screens to fit our cabinet. At my age, I don't need to be spending money on a new cabinet just to fit the tv.

  6. We just bought our first flat screen TV and only because ours was dying. Fortunately it sits on a cabinet instead of "in" one. Adorable clothes. I, too, love the season of open windows.

  9. When I saw that ruffled dress flashing by I thought I bet it's Mary's work. I was right! Love the bee fabric with it too. I know techno logy moves so fast. My son buys so many new items so quickly. Good thing he knows how to eBay them too - Hugs Nat

  16. How nice to have grandaughters to sew for. I used to sew for my daughter until she got into her teen-age years and it was no longer cool to wear home-made dresses, haha. I love buying new stuff (like tvs) too but hate having to figure out where to put it etc. Yours ended up nice.

  18. I never had any daughters and so far no granddaughters to make those adorable dresses for....how sweet is that bee fabric! I know what you mean about the birds......I have my birdseed out and my Kitty loves it! When she was younger she would climb the trees when she went bird stalking. Now that she is older she hides at the bottom of the tree in hopes of catching a gift for me!Love the TV cabinet re-purpose you all did.
