Tomorrow is another story. It will be a day with much to do to prepare for Friday. The doctors have decided that the hip wound that my mother has been battling since last September is not going to close on its own. Therefore, plastic surgery will be done to close it from the inside out.
The recovery is going to be loooooong. The first two weeks she will stay absolutely flat. After that she will start on a strict regimen of sitting up for short periods. The schedule consists of "day 15 - sitting up for 5 minutes on one occasion" and "day 30 - sitting for 30 minutes on one occasion". Day 59 she will finally be able to sit for "3 hours on three occasions". Looking forward to that many days in a hospital is not a pleasant thought by any means, but we are hoping that this will be the end of it once and for all. So tomorrow will be all the pre-op visits for lab work, EKG, chest x-ray and a doctor appointment.
In more uplifting news, we had a delightful weekend with family. Four of our grandchildren spent the night with us on Saturday and we so enjoyed their visit. As busy as we have been lately, we haven't had a lot of free time to spend with the kids so this was great.
Cowboys and cowgirls.
On Sunday one of our granddaughters made her First Communion and it was a time of celebration for all. Following that we all went to grab a hamburger at a local chain that is right by LAX airport. There is a large grassy area where you can spread a blanket out and watch the landing airplanes overhead while you enjoy your meal. It's a big guessing game as to what airlines will be landing as we watch their approach.

Ms. B and her family
A nice day for a picnic.
I hope that everyone is finally enjoying some decent spring weather after all of the cold many of you experienced this year. We have certainly enjoyed the spring flowers and the new hatchlings that have shown up in our yard. We had the sweetest family of wrens right outside my sewing room. They flew the nest on Saturday and I hated to see them go. The parents were so attentive and brought such tasty morsels to the little ones. It is no surprise they grew so quickly and flew on. The baby orioles will soon be appearing at the feeders with their parents. They are always fun to watch as well. They are perhaps the most colorful birds that we get in our area. I would love to have cardinals, but we don't have the white snow that always makes them so stunning in pictures.
This is California snow.....spent blossoms from the citrus trees.
The roses in full bloom.
I hope that everyone has a wonderful week ahead. I may get behind in my blogging again depending on how things work out here. I will try to do my best to keep in touch, but please be patient if I am not.
What a lovely surprise to see a post up from you! Yea! I've missed your posts so am glad we e-mail to keep in touch!
ReplyDeleteWhat are these puzzle pieces that you are making? I haven't seen those before.
So sorry your Mom has to have the surgery but will be glad for her to have that thing closed up once and for all. Will she be in the hospital all of that time? Bless her heart, she has been through so much with this.
Nice seeing the pictures of the First Communion! How exciting when our grandchildren take those first steps in understanding what their beliefs are. She looks beautiful as all of the family in the pictures.
I'm glad you got to have some of the kids for an overnighter. I know you have been missing that. Quite the cowboy and cowgirl!
So that's California snow eh?! Doesn't look as cold as our snow! haha! We were close to 90* yesterday, not quite so hot today and down to the 20's tonight! Yikes! I never know what to wear.
The horses are shedding like mad. I did a lot of grooming and clipping this morning and they don't look quite as shaggy. Will be glad to get them home.
Should have the rest of my electrical hooked up today except for the double ovens. I'm waiting for a couple of pieces of filler that they forgot to order in the original order. Can't wait to start cooking again! R too!
Sending big Maine HUGS your way! xoxox
I'm so sorry to hear that your mom must undergo a procedure that will require such a slow and tedious protocol for her recovery. I will hope and pray this will be successful and she can move on with her life in a comfortable manner. Loved all the rest of your photos!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your mom and I will be praying for her.
ReplyDeleteYour family photo was really good.
That dress she had on was just so gorgeous.
Glad to see you back
God bless.
Nice to see a post from you today. I sure will keep your mom in my prayers for a successful surgery and recovery. My sister was in the hospital for 3 months a year or so ago, and it sure is not something to look forward to. Your mom sounds like one determined lady though.
ReplyDeleteI always love to see pictures of your beautiful family.
Spring has sort of arrived in Michigan. Still too early to plant since there is still a danger of frost, but we've had some beautiful sunny days, the trees are budding out and my tulips and daffodils are blooming. We did have one day of 80 degree weather, but then it was 45 the next day. That's Michigan for you!!
It was so nice to see your post.

Hope things go well for your mom. May your family be blessed through this long process.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your grandaughters First Communion. You must be so proud. The pinic sounds like it was a lot of fun.
I am so sorry that your Mom has to go through this surgery, but I will be praying for a rapid recovery. Maybe the doctors will be wrong, let's hope so.
ReplyDeleteYour family pictures are lovely, nothing better than that. The Communion pictures are gorgeous and the picnic looked like fun!
Oh I was so enjoying visiting with you. I hope your Mom does well and you can at least keep us updated on her. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and her and your whole family.
ReplyDeleteI am sorry your mom has to go through such an ordeal. But she is so blessed to have you by her side.
ReplyDeleteThe communion pictures are lovely - the dress was gorgeous.
The roses are fabulous. We have too much shade for roses. We planted the shade trees on purpose, but I do wish we had a place for more roses.
Sorry to hear of your mom's problems--and yours too. I had a 1 ½ inch opening from back surgery that took over 6 months to close, so I know about bed rest.
ReplyDeleteHow proud your little granddaughter looks at her First Holy Communion. I'm sure she was very excited to take this important step in her faith.
ReplyDeleteWhat a long recovery process you Mom must endure. Praying this will be successful and finally heal her.
How wonderful that you had a chance for a sleepover and good visit with your grands.
It's hard to imagine a picnic site to close to LAX. I shudder when those big planes go so close to the freeways, but it must be quite entertaining to watch up close.
As always, don't worry about the blogging. Everyone will understand.
xoxo
Lovely pics of your grandchildren. Those are always special days... with the grands! I love your puzzle pieces.... they are stunning.
ReplyDelete1st communion looks Great!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your mom!!

Oh dear, I'm so sorry to hear that your mom has to have more surgery on her hip but if the wound didn't want to heal, then there was no other option. Please know that my prayers are with her. It will certainly be a long recovery but with the love of her family, I'm sure she'll pull through just fine:-)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your granddaughter for making her First Communion:-) She looked beautiful and love the smile on her face!!
I had to smile when I saw your "cowboy" and "cowgirl"...not often you see kids these days playing that simple we use to play as children:-) Rather see them playing that than being in front of the computer or tv playing video games!!!
Your puzzle pieces are just gorgeous, I'd never seen anything like that before.
I can't get over how the roses are in bloom over there...won't be until at least July before we see some in bloom here. I was looking at my rose bushes I planted last year in my Faerie Garden and they're starting to sprout so I'm glad to see they survived the Winter:-)
It's raining and cold here today...it even snowed a bit before turning back to rain. I'd rather have the "snow" you get over there! lol xoxo
How beautiful Ms. B is! Your family is just gorgeous! I hope your Mom does well. I will keep her in my prayers. Your roses are beautiful. Mine are blooming on their own without my help right now, but hopefully I will get someone to help me get them to looking better soon. I love the puzzle pcs! How sweet!
ReplyDeleteI've missed your posts and was wondering if someone was sick. So very sorry to hear that your Mom needs surgery. I've been praying for her that the surgery went well yesterday and that her recovery will go well. My goodness what a long slow recovery is in store for you all. I'm sure she feels blessed to have such a large loving family to support her through all this.
ReplyDeleteLoved all the photos of your beautiful family. And your roses!! We don't have enough sunshine in our yard for growing roses so I really enjoy seeing other yards that can grow them.
Those puzzle pieces are facinating. I just copied off the pattern....to add to my growing folder of great fun ideas to get at someday!!!!
Don't overdo...get a good night's sleep...eat right...read a fluffy no brainer book...etc, etc.
Im so sorry to read about your Mom, I hope the recovery goes well.
ReplyDeleteI love the family photo- those are the best :)
Our little Ansel received his First Communion yesterday ... it was very emotional for me, Ansel was very serious about his new venture with God.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your little one's next step into her religious path ...
