Is it Spring Yet?

Well ..... it's hardly spring in our area yet.  I hope it is doing better in your areas.  More rain is expected this weekend and an even stronger storm is rolling in next week.  I'm so ready for warm temperatures and sunshine.  Will March be "in like a lion and out like a lamb?"

The first of the month means it is time for the Minis and More Parade.  Michele and Sherri come up with great ideas each month and February was all about pincushions.  I decided to make some patriotic pincushions. I have been wanting to have a little bowl of pincushions on the sofa table for some time now.  I thought it would be fun to change them out for the seasons.  The bowl is made by Char at Cloth Stitched.  I'm sure these will probably be used as bean bags when the kids are here.

It's also time for the next block in the Bloom SAL.  You can read all about it HERE.  I was hoping to get two blocks done this time, but maybe it will happen next time.

We celebrated my mom's 96th birthday this week.

The days have been a bit busy as we added to our household.  This sweet little guy has come to stay and we are back into puppy training again.  Toby has made quick friends with Rudy.

They play hard and then they sleep just as hard.

  1. I love the doggie pix. Congratulations to your mom for celebrating 96 years - quite a milestone. Your basket fillers are beautiful. It seems that misery loves company and a lot of us are waiting for some sign of spring - weather wise it's hard to believe it's March in my neck of the woods. Have a good weekend.

  5. Your mom is a lovely, young looking 96! She looks pleased to be honored with such a beautiful cake and celebration. Your little pincushions look like fun, and you'll enjoy swapping them out with the seasons. Spring certainly hasn't come to our neck of the woods yet, the temps have been around 20 degrees below normal, and next week is setting up to be snowy and even colder. We probably have at least two nights of sub-zero in the coming week. Congratulations on your new little friend, looks like he has integrated himself into the household just fine!

  8. On this side of the world I'm hanging out for a weather change, too! Autumn is my favourite time of year, but so far summer is hanging on. We haven't had any rain in ages and the garden is so sad and wilted.

Your Bloom blocks look like the embodiment of spring!

Happy birthday to your mother. And welcome to your new little sweetie.

  9. Happy Birthday to your mum. 96 and counting. Well done Marys mum.
Love the little pincushions. My grandkids, two only, are teens and twenties, but I could see a game of catch with them also. Your new little puppy is gorgeous. Its good to have an older wiser friend to help with the training. I miss having a dog about. Don't know if I have the courage to face all the training though.

  22. Happy 96th Birthday to your Mom! How wonderful that you are able to share the day with her. Your new furry family member is adorable. Your quilt blocks are inspiring. The Bloom pattern is one I have wanted to make since the first tine I saw it and every time thereafter. Hand applique scares me, though. I wonder if I could do her method ... Pat

  23. Happy Birthday to your Mom, and her cake looks delicious (we just had a mini-one for treats tonight after dinner). My mom is six years younger than her, and I can't wait to see her next month. Okay, back to the blog: Your pin cushions are charming, and I totally can see them as bean-bag-items when the grandkids come around. Your quilt block looks great, and fun to see the new member of your household. Happy training!

Well it's COLD in my world and my world is covered in snow. :o) I hear Spring is coming. I'll believe it when I see it. Can't wait. Your Mom looks like she had a special celebration.

  28. You are getting rain while we are getting snow. We got so much snow in February that I couldn't even believe it. We are still getting it in March which is pretty unusual.

The little pin cushions in a bowl is a fabulous idea! I love those little red, white, and blue beauties. Changing them out with the seasons is a wonderful idea.
