After making the mini, I am thinking that I may need to make the Scrappy Trip quilt that was going around Blogland several years ago. Be sure to pop over to Michele and Sherri's blogs to see the other versions of this pattern.
This weeks blocks for the Seeing Stars QAL was called Curvy Star. The curves were gentle curves so went together quickly.
August is quickly coming to a close so thought I'd post a photo of an up to date Temperature Quilt. The August row is hanging to the right of the quilt as it is not quilt long enough to add to the bottom yet. It's definitely been a warmer few months, but you can see that the nights are starting to cool down a bit.
While watering the pots this weekend, I noticed this cute little guy tucked into a plumeria plant. He was well camouflaged.
As the garden starts to slow down a bit, we have been harvesting peaches, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers daily. Marjorie shared a recipe for mustard pickles with me so I put some up this week. They are very good.
The days are definitely shortening. Fall is coming quickly. There is a lot of talk about eliminating Daylight Savings Time. What are your thoughts on it?
Your trip around the world is lovely! Love the soft yellows and grays.
ReplyDeleteI would be very happy if they ended daylight savings time.
I do love your yellow mini quilt. Such a happy color combination. About 30 years ago I made a trip around the world doll quilt for my daughter's American Girls doll, sadly don't have a photo and it's packed away now a hundred miles away until she has a daughter..or grandaughter. It would be wonderful if they just let us have daylight saving time all year!
ReplyDeleteEverything looks wonderful, Mary....good job on the pickles! I made another batch yesterday too.
ReplyDeleteWe have daylight saving as well down here.....I love it. I love the early morning light...just means I can go for my walk earlier. Your Plumerias are pretty. We call them Frangipanis down here. They do have a heavenly scent, don't they. Those curvy star blocks are fabulous and how nice to sit in the open air and listen to Chopin.
ReplyDeleteYour mini is too cute. The grays and yellows are so soothing. I have been thinking of making a trip around the world quilt after seeing all of these in blogland, but it hasn't made it to the top of my list yet. It's too bad we don't have "smell-o-blogs"... I'd love to smell your plumeria.
ReplyDeletePretty little mini :) and loved seeing the praying mantis - we usually see those around here but not this year for some reason.
ReplyDeleteYour greys and yellows make for a beautiful Trip Around the World. A lovely mini.
ReplyDeleteI have not heard anything about changing the Daylight Saving schedule but I would love it if they did! My animals have always refused to change their clocks!
Aaaah, I love the combination of yellow and grey -- your piece is SO pretty! As is the plumeria -- especially the creamy pink one. Yummy! Your temp quilt is coming along very nicely. I had a friend working on mini hand applique tulips this weekend...I thought that would make a fun expression of the temp quilt! :)
ReplyDeleteI really like the fabrics in your mini trip around the world. I remember seeing those scrappy versions a while ago. I still struggle with scrappy but I'm going to have to get over that soon to get rid of some scraps and other stash that has been hanging around too long.
ReplyDeleteI stay current on my temperature blocks, I have a couple of rows to add then I'll share my FL version. It isn't very exciting, I'm afraid.
The mustard pickles sound wonderful. Do let us know how they turn out.
Wow gorgeous quilt love the colours ,your blocks are lovely too. What a lovely place to go and listen to music, hope you have a wonderful week my friend xx
ReplyDeleteYour photos are fabulous. I love all the projects, those stars are so interestingly fun. You keep so busy.
ReplyDeleteI love all the yellow and grey in your Trip Around The World Mini! One of my favourite colour combinations. Your star blocks are really pretty and the temperature quilt is coming along so nicely. I am glad of the cooler temperatures here. Beautiful flowers, wish I could smell them, and the pickles look delicious. How wonderful you went to the Bowl for a Chopin concert! I really dislike DST, hope they eliminate it.

I enlarged your photo of your mini, just to see what all those wonderful prints were in gray, taupe and yellow--a very successful mini, I must say. Your temperature quilt is all so full of bright tones--did you skew the color scheme that way, or has it really been that hot this year?
ReplyDeleteYour pickles look great, as does that dinner/Hollywood Bowl experience. What a lovely way to spend a summer night! I'd be happy to get rid of Daylight Savings Time, as I'm a morning person, but I definitely don't want to go the other way: All the Time Daylight Savings Time. I look forward to "real sun time" greedily every fall, and mourn when I have to give it up in Spring. Thanks for showing us your garden, both in flowers and in canning. Happy Labor Day weekend!
Your mini quilt is so bright and cheery...love it! It looks like you've been a busy lady with concerts, canning, and sewing. Fun!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mini quilt!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy seeing your late summer flowers as we are saying good-bye to winter.
Love those curvy stars!! xx
ReplyDeleteYour mini is great. I've never been tempted to make a Trip quilt but a mini might be do-able.
ReplyDeleteFirstly I love Daylght Savings Time and would like it forever. Longer Sunlight each day is my favorite. Fall is definitely in the air. Your quilts are always so beautiful with the fabrics and colors you put together. We had lots of Praying Mantis’ on our roses each summer in Nor Cal. My Granddaughter (Amber) grows Plumerias as did my Grandma and they are so beautiful and fragrant. Amber just went to a Plumeria Festival in San Diego and obtained her much sought after J105, Purple Jack and a couple others. September Sewing Bliss Dear <3
ReplyDeleteI like yellows and grays together -- need to do something in that vein -- Lord knows I have the fabric!!
ReplyDeleteI, for one, would like to see the end of daylight savings time. It throws my biological clock off for weeks, and it's hard to cope. I know there is good to it, but haven't in all these years figured out how to cope with it. Actually, now that I'm retired it's a little bit better.
ReplyDeleteWe have somethings in common - 50 years of marriage this November. Three adult children - 7 grandkids. Live in SoCal and a fan of Classical music. Love the mini.
