Spring Blooms

Flowers, flowers...everywhere.  In spite of our most welcomed rains today, spring is all around us.  I've finished all of my little tulip blocks and am now assembling them into the larger blocks to create my Tulip Time quilt.  This is a Bonnie Hunter quilt pattern.  I may not have it finished for this spring, but I'm really liking the secondary pattern that the green stems and leaves are creating.

The outdoor flowers are even more prolific.  The roses are coming into full bloom.  I always love the first flush of flowers.

The clivias have also shown their blooms this week.

My Dragon Dreams came together and is ready for gifting.  I loved making this pattern.

The hummingbird nest in the plant on my mom's front porch is supporting it's second set of babies this spring.  Since escrow closes this week on her home, I won't be able to get updated pictures as they grow.  It has been so much fun to watch these little ones grow and fly off over the years.  I hope the new owners will keep the plant and enjoy them as much as we have.

As March comes to a close, I can say that it has been a good month for my block count.  With the additional tulip blocks and now making them into bigger blocks, I have added an additional 22 blocks this month.  This gives me a total of 93 for the month of March.  I'll be linking them up with the 350 Block Challenge.

  1. The dragon is soooo cute!! Both the fabric and real flowers are beautiful - I miss my roses (I heard the new owners took them all out). Here they are just deer food (and I don't get enough sun). Congrats on 93 blocks - wow!

  2. Your flowers are so lovely. Great that your mom's house has closed, but will miss seeing the hummingbirds hatch in that tiny nest. Love your dragon dreams, and the tulip time quilt is going to be awesome. I agree the secondary pattern is neat.

  3. All your flowers, both quilted and in the garden are lovely. It's a bit too early for our flowers but I'm sure ready for spring.

  13. Dragon Dreams is adorable, as are all those tulip blocks! Your flowers are always so gorgeous and welcome this time of year as we're still dealing with snow and cold winds, and the daffodils are shivering too much to bloom. Happy spring!

  15. Love the tulip quilt. Wondering about the scale. What is the size of the background square? I know this was first published in a Quiltmaker section and then she put it together for a pattern.

  18. The dragon is so cute, I love him! Tulip Time is just lovely; you’re right, that secondary pattern is delightful at the block intersections. Like KaHolly said, I, too, was unaware that hummers reused their nests- I just know how much enjoyment that has provided.

Also your little kite is very cute, I like both very much.
Thanks for the beautiful flower photos. I start watering my roses, the first green has come out. But spring comes in all its glory.

  21. Your quilt is awesome. I love the colors and tulips are a favorite flower. Sadly, mine in the yard have not done well in recent years. Think I need to plant new ones. We don't have much color yet with outdoor flowers, still a bit early for us, so it's nice to see your outdoor garden areas full of colorful flowers. Getting you added to my blog list.
