Hello February. Seriously? I'm sure there are more than a few of you eager to get this winter behind us. It has been chilly (for us) and rainy this year. I know that I am ready for some sunshine myself. Everything is beyond saturated - including myself!
Rainy outside means more sewing time inside. The Scrappy Mountain Majesties blocks have gone from a UFO to a completion. I ended up finding the perfect border fabric in my stash. I loved all the colors that were brought out in the quilt when I added the borders. Final size of the quilt is 72" x 82" and it will go to a grandson who requested a quilt for his college apartment.
Today is the day to share our second block of the Bloom SAL, hosted by Cheryll. I have so many vintage 30s fabrics as well as some of the reproductions so thought this would be a good time to use them. I am mixing older and newer together and hoping to make a dent in that bin.
Our Queen Bee in our Gridster Bee for February is Elizabeth. She is doing such sweet little houses. I'm looking forward to seeing this one finished.
We finally had a sunny day last week and I was able to get out in the garden and finish pruning my roses. These poor little buds were still barely hanging on, but it was nice to have a small bouquet to bring in the house in February.
One advantage of all the rain is the lush green that is now our world. The hills have gone from the dead brown to the living green again.
One of our granddaughters is studying abroad in Florence. She texted me a picture of this wine bottle that she said reminded her of me. I wonder why. I think I need one to use as a vase in my sewing room.
I loved this cute cartoon that was on our guild's FB page. I have no idea who the author is, but it spoke to me when I saw it. lol
A lovely finish! I made a mountain majesty last spring for a high school grad going off to college. Seems to be a good choice for a guy! Honestly, I'd love some good solid winter for another month and then, bam! spring but Kansas has to flip flop so much--it lures you into thinking spring....and then gets bitter again. The back and forth kinda wears on us after a while! Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteI'm ready for the constant see-saw of sub-zero then 40s and 50s, then back to sub-zero. Though I love the greening of spring, it will also severely cut back on my sewing/quilting time, so a double-edge sword. Love that wine bottle label! And your scrappy mountains finish, your colors are just beautiful and the border fabric is indeed the perfect choice to finish it off. Your grandson is a lucky young man!
ReplyDeletelove your quilt
ReplyDeleteWoW...I LoVe the quilt...just gorgeous. And well done on another BLooM block.
ReplyDeleteStay warm in your crazy weather too... xox
Hi Mary wow love your quilt it looks amazing and how pretty is that bottle,it will make a pretty vase, hope you have a wonderful day my friend xx
ReplyDeleteYour finished quilt is wonderful. I haven’t made that design before, but it’s on my list. We are ready for spring and drier weather here. Your green is so pretty. Happy quilting! The cartoon is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI love your scrappy mountains quilt. Lucky grandson!
ReplyDeleteYour Bloom blocks are looking good. Your fabric mixture makes them come alive.
The border fabric you choose for your Mountain Majesty quilt is fabulous...it's a perfect match bringing out all the colours in the quilt. A fabulous quilt for your grandson's college days. Your Bloom blocks are very sweet, evoking a sense of whimsy. I did smile at the wine bottle; yes you must get your granddaughter to send you one. I can definitely see a flower or two blooming in it. That's the thing with a lot of rain, it transforms a brown landscape into a picture of verdant beauty.
ReplyDeleteOne loved grandson is getting a wonderful quilt. Great job and great border. The wine bottle is perfect for a quilter. How nice of your grand to think of you. I adore the Phil cartoon. Here in the Tulsa area, we have had only a smattering of snow a few days in November and I was in the hospital those days. Yesterday it was 64 in the afternoon here. The streets were seas of cars. It took an enormous amount of time to go anywhere. Glad that I had picked up a friend and we had gal time.
ReplyDeleteVery cool mountains quilt--and you are right, that border is perfect. I'm sure your grandson will really enjoy it. We have another rainy day outside, but I'm sure too soon I'll be sweltering, and wishing I was able to put on layers and be cozy.
ReplyDeleteI love reading your posts--thanks for writing about all these fun things!
Great quilt top and very cute blocks. I think we all need a bottle of that wine, maybe not just for the label ;o)
ReplyDeleteI'm about to build an ark here, although with the winds, a large sailboat would be better. Stay dry.
Love your Bloom blocks. I'm loving checking out all our different/same blocks.
ReplyDeleteThe mountain quilt will look great in your grandson's apartment. The border is perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour bloom blocks look great as do those sweet bee blocks.
You definitely need the wine bottle for a vase. You'll have to have your granddaughter pick one up for you.
The quilt is beautiful, so perfect for his apartment. I would love to make one in wintry colours of the Sierra. The vintage blocks are looking lovely, your choice of fabrics could not be more perfect. How wonderful that your granddaughter is studying in Florence. I wonder if she can bring one bottle back with her for you. Won't that be wonderful!

ReplyDeleteI love your quilt and the border was an excellent choice. We had snow last night and there will be no rose buds around here for awhile.
ReplyDeleteFabulous finish and the border does bring out the colours in the quilt....
ReplyDeleteLovely Bloom block and cute bee blocks...
The bottle would be a perfect vase for the sewing space..
Hello Mary. I really enjoyed this read. Your "Mountains Majesty" is wonderful! I like the variety of fabrics in it because I am a variety girl.
ReplyDeleteYour 30s scrap bin will yield an amazing quilt with this quilt along. You will LOVE this quilt!
The mountain the your photo is so gorgeous. We still have snow here, but it is beginning to melt off.
Have a fantastic week!
Hi Mary Dear. I am so thrilled living here in Southern Utah where the snow stays on the surrounding mountains and not in our neighborhood. I also like sunshine and warmth. It has been a chilly Winter. Lovely finished quilt. Your little rosebuds are very sweet. Yes, you do need that bottle of wine. Your granddaughter is so blessed to be studying in Florence Italy. Fabulous February...
ReplyDeleteThat bottle of wine would definitely be something you should have. It's so pretty! Your quilt and blocks are beautiful...love the houses!
