I'm so ready for the winds to stop and the fires in the area to get under control. It has been a couple of wild days around here.
The home that was my parents for many years burned to the ground yesterday in Ventura. The heroic efforts of firefighters stood no chance with the incredible winds we were experiencing. So many memories are now left in our minds and in the ashes.
I am just so grateful for the fact that my mom chose to move closer to my sister and myself. To get that middle of the night phone call to evacuate would have been terrifying.
Tonight is suppose to be even worse as far as the winds go. I am praying for the safety of the firefighters and for all of those who have lost their homes, including my niece and nephew.
Needless to say, sewing has taken a back seat this week with all that has been going on here. I did, however, play around a bit with some geese and nine patches. I was just trying to see what another colorway in Bonnie Hunter's mystery would look like.
Dreadful fires - so pleased that your mom is living closer to you.
ReplyDeleteTerrible fires. I've been wondering about our own niece who lives there. So sorry to hear about the family home, but glad your mom as well as your niece and nephew are safe.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about our moms home and like you glad she had moved. Such a sad thing to lose everything. Hope the winds stop.
ReplyDeleteLove Bonnie's mystery quilt.
Prayers for your family members and all those dealing with the fires. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteWe visited beautiful Ventura a few years ago. My brother in law lived there at one time and loved the area. I’m sorry your parents home burned. There really is no way to understand what a fire means until you go through the loss of everything. My family home burned when I was a little girl. All of my early years photos burned. I have no idea what I looked like from birth to age four.
ReplyDeleteSending positive thoughts and prayers to you and all of those in the evacation areas and fire risk areas. Strong winds and fires are not a good thing, especially after a long hot summer where California desperately needs rain. Stay safe.

Very pretty blocks, Mary. What a shame that fires are raging. That is never an easy situation and winds just add to it.
ReplyDeleteWow that winds and the fires are a terrible combination. We have just had lots of wind which I really have grown to despise. How sad to see the house you grew up in gone. Glad your mom wasn't still living there. Prayers for your family during this time.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your mom is safe! We are praying for all those affected by those terrible fires, what little we have seen on the news looks just awful!
ReplyDeleteI’ve been praying for all of you and am glad you are safe. It’s heartbreaking to see all of the loss and devastation. I really like your color choices for the mystery quilt. They are calming....something you need right now.
ReplyDeleteOh my friend, I am so happy you are safe. Praying for all those in California in harms way. I have always loved the violet with sage....such a beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteSuch devastation, so pleased your Mum and family are safe....
ReplyDeleteNo words for the terror and destruction of those fires. Just prayers for safety of all involved.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry about the house.. those fires are just terrible! I too am praying for the firefighters and all those in harms way. I like your block!
ReplyDeleteSad about your parents old home. Will be very glad when some humidity returns to us in SoCal and the winds stop so that they can get these fires out. We've been safe in our area, though can see the smoke in just about every direction. Thankful that friends who live in some of the evacuation zones still have their homes, tho' some of their neighbors do not - too many throughout the region have lost homes and belongings.
ReplyDeleteThinking of you, your family and friends and everyone fighting those devastating fires. I hope a little sewing therapy eases your mind.
ReplyDeleteYes, make it stop and bring on the rain! We live in So Cal also and are so saddened by all the loss from the never ending fires this year. So different from a few years ago when we had mud slides from all the rain. Praying for safety and peace for all involved on the front lines.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry to hear that your niece and nephew lost their home. So sad and frightening!
ReplyDeleteWhen will it end...so sorry for your family’s loss.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear of your family's property losses, but thankfully everyone is okay? Such terrible fires would be so scary! Prayers for you and everyone in the area.
ReplyDeletePraying for the safety of all down in So. Cal. I am so sorry your family has experienced the loss first hand. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about the fires. Prayers and hugs to you and to all the communities affected. Will be thinking of you...
ReplyDeleteSo terrifying!! Be safe and lots of prayers for all!!
ReplyDeleteI've been praying for your area. Fire is so frightening.
ReplyDeleteWe wake up every morning and read about what went on in the fire zone, and just feel so bad for everyone. I am sorry about the loss of your mother's former home--that is cutting it a bit too close for comfort, I think. I know when the winds shift (supposedly tonight?) we'll be inundated with smoke from the fires--on Tuesday, before the Santa Anas really kicked up, it smelled like a campfire outside.
ReplyDeleteI think sewing is a good thing to do--keep the hands busy while the mind is worrying. You are in my thoughts constantly--
Elizabeth
I am praying for you and all who are affected by the fires. May God keep you safe. Glad your mum didn't have to experience the need to evacuate. So sorry about your nephew and niece. God Bless.
ReplyDeleteMary Dear I am so sorry for your family homes being burned. We have been out of state and when we returned to Bakersfield found out about the horrific fires. Thankfully we were not heading south and our kids are safe in South Orange County...so far. Prayers for winds to subside and firefighters to remain safe and successful in squelching out all fires. May you stay safe...<3
ReplyDeleteIt has been a devastating few months. It just feels all so deja vu. I hope the wind has died down for you and the smoke is starting to clear. I am glad you were able to distract yourself with a bit of lovely colourful sewing. Take care, Mary!

The photos of the fires have been terrifying to say the least. I'm so sorry your parents home burned to the ground, but a blessing there was no evacuation call to deal with. The loss of all the homes is mind boggling. My husband's friend sent him a photo of the fire just down the block from him. So far his home is still standing. Be safe!
ReplyDeleteI’ve lived near Tx fires, and I can just imagine how horrendous it is. Stay safe!
ReplyDeleteI can't imagine experiencing those fires , just dreadful . So sorry your parents home was lost . I quite like the colours you have used for Bonnie Hunters mystery quilt, will be lovely .
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry your parents' home burned, and glad that your mom is okay. These fires have touched so many people, even those living across the country from them. We just have to keep praying for the displaced families.
ReplyDeleteI continue to pray for the firefighters and everyone that has lost their home. It is all so devastating. Sending hugs and prayers.
ReplyDeleteHope it doesn'come close to you. Praying for all those hurt by the fire
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to read this. You have been on my mind. I'm with you, STOP! Enough is enough! (((Hugs)))
