Welcome October

Welcome October!  The leaves are changing, the temps are dropping.  That extra blanket on the bed is feeling quite good these nights.  It must be October.

It's been a techy week for me.  My old phone was dying off and on so it was time to upgrade.  I have spent too many hours transferring all the date and figuring the new one out.  Isn't that the worst part of getting something new?

I've continued to work on my Valor Quilt and managed to get it quilted this week.  I quilted with a stars and swirls pantograph.  Binding will come soon.  It measures 72" square.  You can find the tutorial HERE.

Love that navy Grunge fabric.

As well, I have started another one and have my 20 scrappy stars finished.

My sister brought me an early birthday gift over the weekend.  She has had the cutest metal sculptured goat in her yard and I have threatened that I was going to steal it.  Well.....she brought me not one, but two goats for our yard.  Aren't they cute?

The massacre in as Las Vegas this week was terrible.  My prayers go out to all involved in the terrible incident.  I just cannot imagine getting that phone call.  Our son and DIL were in Las Vegas, but we felt reassured knowing that they were staying in northern Las Vegas.  That being said, it was nice to get a text from them.  Of course we were all unaware of it until we woke up Monday morning on the West coast.

  1. I do love the mottled look of that navy grunge fabric. The stars panto is perfect for this QOV. The goats are too much! You're going to have a great time helping them get into trouble in your gardens!

The metal goats are a fun addition to your yard. How nice that your sister kept you from having to steal them :-) You'll have fun dressing them for holidays!

  4. The quilting on your first QOV is just perfect for it. I like the scrappy stars for the next one too. Will it be as large as the first? 72" is a nice size.

The goats are a hoot with the birthday ribbon on their heads...I love it.

  5. Oh Mary, the massacre is a tragedy!! But, on a brighter note....your goats are so sweet, I wish I had that pair!!! Both quilts are wonderful, Mary. I haven't bought the pantograph and rear handles for my Coronet yet....I enjoy the freand hand, but....it would be a nice change. Love your quilting pattern.

  6. How frightening it must have been for your family, to be that close! I'm glad your loved ones are safe.

Some veteran will truly appreciate your QOV. It's really beautiful! Is the scrappy blue stars top also for QOV? Navy grunge is one of the all time most useful fabrics, I think!

  9. Glad the people you love were okay in LV. I know you and your husband like to drive there occasionally--will we now all think of that? (Hope not).

Your goats are hilarious--perfect for a backyard! And I love the progress on all your other quilting. Happy Birthday to you, and hope you kick off fall in a good way.

  12. The Quilt of Valor is beautiful. Your quilting is also amazing. Thank you for the tutorial link. I have fabric to sew Valor quilt a friend's husband who is a Vietnam vet.

I too, was shocked and saddened when I heard of the Vegas tragedy. Our country is in need of prayer.

  14. I am still getting over the shock of Las Vegas. I was relieved to hear that your son and DIL were nowhere near the area. Such a tragedy! The Valor Quilt is gorgeous, Mary, and stars and swirls are perfect for the quilting. I really love it! Your scrappy star quilt looks wonderful too. You are so great with combining different scraps to make a coherent quilt. The goats are so cute!! What a fun gift. Happy Birthday!

  15. Love your goats. One of the last texts I sent Jeff was of a tin cow, asking if I could have it. LOL Glad your family was safe, I bet it was a bit stressful to realize they were so close to the tragedy. Love your new quilt start.

  19. I love October. Happy Birthday! October birthday are the BEST! :o) Love the goats. Those quilts are going to provide so much comfort. Beautiful. My old phone, very old phone, is dying. I hate the thought of learning new. Am I an "old dog who can't learn new tricks" or am I the "never too late to learn" type? I'll find out... My niece, her husband, his daughter and daughter's boyfriend were all in Vegas at the concert when the shooting began. Tragic. They are safe but I don't think it's anything you "get over."
