We had the opportunity to celebrate our fall birthdays at the beach last week and I gifted her a "sassy chick for a sassy chick".
The pattern was from Fat Cat Patterns and I used Lara Buccella's Crafted Applique technique to applique the chicken pieces. I love this technique as there are no frayed edges and the fabric has such a soft "feel" to it.
While we were all together to celebrate birthdays we took a side trip to the Santa Barbara Zoo. It is such a nice little zoo and they had just introduced their newest baby giraffe.
Isn't it sweet?
I wonder how long I could stand like this - much less, take a nap.
Nice kitty....... good thing there was glass between us.
Of course we had to drive down to the docks and see what was being brought in for the daily catch. This boat delivered 150# of sea cucumbers - slimy looking things, but I didn't get a picture. ;-( They looked like chopped off octopus tentacles.
I watched three little ones yesterday and one little one during "quiet time" yesterday managed to push enough buttons on the alarm clock to set off the alarms last night. It was invigorating to know that it was 12:00 a.m, AND 4:00a.m.!!!! Since we never use the alarms, we had to fully awaken (both times) and locate the eyeglasses to figure out how to turn them off. I will have to be sure and thank the children when I see them. ;-)
Ha, ha. Sorry, that's way too funny. Little ones love their buttons. Our answering machine says "the machine is off" and "the machine is on" and those little ones love listening to it. Drives me crazy but at least I'm not awakened at night.
ReplyDeleteFlamingos have always been a favourite of mine and I adore that chicken quilt. I'm sure your sister got a kick out of it.
Cute chick quilt! Quite sure SIL loved it too. You had me chuckling over the alarm! Grands love buttons and things. I recall after a visit from a very young grandson the knobs on several drawers were unscrewed came off in my hands! He had been very busy!!
ReplyDeleteLove the Sassy CHick!! No little ones to surprise, but one day I thought my Cable box had gone haywire only to realize that the remote was under the blanket Moe was laying on and every time he moved, he changed channels - adjusted volumn - rewound - fast forward - picture in picture. Clever cat!!
ReplyDeleteLove that chicken and the photos!!
ReplyDeleteSassy chick indeed - fun! Yes, we have three grands coming for a long weekend next week. Always interesting finding things again after they leave! Wouldn't have it any other way.
ReplyDeleteI have a chicken lovin' friend who would go crazy for your sassy chick! I'm not familiar with that applique technique. LOL love the alarm clock fun. :-) Have a great afternoon!
ReplyDeleteYour story about the alarms cracked me up--I'm still smiling. It's like going to a hotel, and the alarm goes off and you know you didn't set it. (Twice! That's some talented grandchild). I love your chicken and can't wait until my book arrives here, so I can try her technique. It's such a great little wallhanging. And by the way, Leisa made bread yesterday and I'm making some today! (Your influence just keeps on going!)
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Awwww.... baby giraffes! How adorable. And isn't it fun to have grandies keeping you on your toes. LOL!
ReplyDeleteLove your chicken! Bet your S-I-L does also! Had to laugh with your alarm clock story! At least you got a 4 hour "snooze" in between!
ReplyDeleteOH my word, your very sassy chicks is perfect.. YOU just make me smile x
ReplyDeleteGrand kids love to mash Things on every thing but we still really enjoy them

ReplyDeleteSassy Chick is adorable. What a wonderful weekend you enjoyed and celebrating birthdays. Happy Belated Birthday. Baby giraffe is super cute.
ReplyDeleteI love that funny chicken. I know your sister-in-law must love it too. So cute.
ReplyDeleteThe little ones wanted to make sure you were thinking of them when they were gone. :) Your sassy chick is adorable. I love the chicken wire binding you used. It really finishes off the cute little quilt.
ReplyDeleteThat's a fabulous chick you made for your SIL... Looks like a great visit to the zoo...
ReplyDeleteLOL you just got to love those wee ones especially at 12am and again at 4am.......
Love the Sassy chick. Just perfect for a chicken lover. I could just picture you and hubby searching for the OFF button in the wee small hours. Made me smile. I have a grandson who loved to do things like that on purpose. He's almost 20, and I don't think he has grown out of it yet. That's one cute baby giraffe. They are my favourite of all the wild creatures.
ReplyDeleteI heart Giraffe. After Abby they're my favorite animal. Chickens come in as a close fave too. LOL Sassy Chicken is so fun. You sister in law must have been thrilled. Love the chicken wire binding. LOLOLOLOL love the little one's exploration when the grandparents aren't noticing. :o)
ReplyDeleteCute chicken! I'm sure she loved it. I wonder what they do with all those sea cucumbers? XO
ReplyDeleteThere is not much I love more than a sassy chick! Our chickens seem to keep us in eggs, and I do love having them. Your trip looks like a very nice time. Love to see the babies...keep up the great work Mary. So nice to check in with you.
ReplyDeleteThe Sassy Chick looks fabulous!! I know your SIL loves it. Fun photos of the birthday trip. The story about the alarm was hilarious. Although, you probably didn't feel the same way at the moment :)

Love that little giraffe!! Sorry about those alarms, I am not good at getting them turned off either :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos! The chick quilt is so cute ♥
ReplyDeleteHahaha Mary - little ones and button pushing... you definitely have to watch out for them. Eden sent her first text message to her uncle the other day. It just said "1". a couple of hours later, he sent one back that just said "2", LOL.
ReplyDeleteWhat in the world do they use sea cucumbers for? People don't eat them do they? (Gag)
That cute chicken quilt is something to crow about! I love the expression you managed to add and the black and white fabrics for feathers!
