So Dearly, Part 8

Today is my day to present the final part of my version of the So Dearly QAL hosted by Gosia from Quilts my Way.  I am sure that you will agree that she designed an amazing pattern.

The guessing game is now officially over as to what it will be.  Part Eight was the most complicated with many smaller sections needing to be placed in mirror image.  Paper piecing is really like a jigsaw puzzle to me.

Once all of the pieces were stitched together, it didn't look like much.

That all changed once all of the sections were sewn together.

The fill -in pieces were added and the full picture emerged.

Part 8 is free on Gosia's Craftsy site until December 3rd.  The other sections are still available at a minimum price.

Although when I began this QAL and had no idea what the final design would become, I think the choice of using neutrals worked well for me.  However, I have seen some stunning and colorful bucks along the way.

This month is dedicated to quilting it.  I have NO IDEA where to go with that.  Anybody want to offer me suggestions?

  5. A very pretty quilt. This was fun to watch come together. It will be interesting to see how you quilt it. I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

  6. This is so beautiful! Your color choices are perfect!
I am always stumped with quilting design. My first thing with this guy would probably be to keep the actual buck stitching simple. Some kind of straight line outlining...SID, or just a line inside the edge. Then maybe wood grain for the back ground fabric. Or to get fancy in the background, stitch pine boughs and pine cones. I did that once using Golden Threads paper that I traced the design onto and then stitched through the paper. It was a little crazy picking out all the paper afterwards but it came out better than I would have done free hand. I hope you have fun with it! And I hope your Thanksgiving was comforting this year. Your community has been through so much! I was blessed to have my sister her with us. She has been through a very full year of medical treatment and is recovering but enjoying the success of it all. God has been faithful each day and in every way.

  7. Mary, your quilt is beautiful! You are right... the neutrals worked really well with the mystery design. Great flimsy finish! I look forward to seeing how you decide to quilt it. Hopefully you had a wonderful Thanksgiving break and received some of the rains California is getting.

  11. Your choice of fabrics and your piecing made it so beautiful, Mary! Great colours! Not sure how to quilt it. I had the same problem with my Tabby Cat wall hanging. I did match stick quilting on that one, 1/4" apart, and I loved it. You could also try leaves and vines. That would look beautiful too, I think.

  12. He is a very handsome beast!

I might try to quilt trees/forest in the background. That's assuming deer live in forests? I don't know much about deer! But this one is wonderful.

  13. Terrific! Of course, we all had our guessing going when we saw the antlers, but the full deer/buck is amazing. I will love to see what you do with this, in the quilting, as I am sure that whatever you choose will be great.

Are you doing the Quiltville Mystery this year? I think I would, then...I just download and keep going on mu current projects. :)
