This Week

It's so hard to imagine that it has been seventeen years since our country was attacked.  I am sure we can each remember where we were when we heard the news.  Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families of the victims in a special way today.

You know that you haven't blogged in awhile when you have to look at photos to see what you have done lately!  It has been a busy time, but I am trying to stay up to date on the Happy Quilting Seeing Stars QAL.

Last week we completed these stars.

This week we were to create nine improv stars.  I don't do improv.  I am such a control freak about matching my points, etc. so my improv never looks "improv".  I did manage to muddle through the nine star blocks.

The blocks seem to be getting smaller each week.  I wonder what tomorrow's blocks will be.

Secretly, I have been working on a project from these great fabrics that I have shared before.

Here is a hint of what I have created with them.  Don't you love the keys?

You can see the entire project in the Words to Live By blog hop.  My day is Friday, but be sure to check out the other participants and enter to win a bundle of fat quarters of Words to Live By from Cherry Guidry and Benartex Fabrics.

  1. Your secret project fabrics are so soft and buttery, looking forward to seeing what you've created. I know what you mean about wonky, I'm still trying to achieve accuracy without letting things go totally amok!

  2. I remember exactly where I was when I learned of the attack on the Twin Towers. Down here in Australia I can remember watching all the news stories and could not really believe what I was seeing. Upon visiting New York this year, the September 11 Memorial was a place I visited. The Memorial deeply affected me; it was poignant, evocative, solemn, reflective, haunting....and just so, so sad. My visit to this beautiful place will stay with me forever. There were many times when the tears trickled down my cheek as I read the deeply personal stories, the human drama and tragedies. The Memorial's twin reflecting pools which sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood is a most beautiful tribute. As I read the names inscribed in bronze panels I was deeply moved. On a lighter note both sets of your star blocks look fabulous and your secret project....well that looks lovely. Yes, the key fabric is very cool.

  4. Love your stars....they both are fantastic. The middle of the first stars look great, how do you do that? Did you fan out the seams?

  5. I enjoyed both sets of stars . . . but I'm going to tell on myself: As much as I'd enjoy making the improv stars (because I'm not terrific at point matching), I adore the look of your precisely pieced stars the most!! :)

  6. I laughed at your comment about your wonky stars. Years ago, when I was making that quilt from the Moda Quilt Shop that had wonky stars in it, I had to unpick and re-stitch more blocks than I care to admit to, because I kept getting the wonkiness wrong. My brain isn't wired that way, for sure!

And your Benartex quilt looks so great! I didn't want to leave a comment over there so I wouldn't interfere with your giveaway, but it is really terrific, and shows off that fabric really well. Fun for you!

Thanks also for the remembrance of 9/11--that's when we flew out this month on our trip. We did talk a lot about that as we traveled, and remembering that we went to Japan three weeks after the first 9/11, and how the airports were like ghost towns. Really spooky and very sad. I hope we never have another like that.

  7. Your stars look great! Good job getting out of your comfort zone. The great thing about quilting is there are so many ways to do it. If one method is not your cup of tea there is always another method.
