Gridster Bee Block

Since I am the bee queen in our Gridster Bee this month, I have had time to work on next month's block for Carol (IG carolanngillen).  She has such a fun block for July - all things patriotic.

My Temperature Quilt 2017 geese have been pretty boring this month.  We live in an area designated as a "microclimate" so we have not experienced the high heat that much of the West has been enduring.  Our warmest day only reached 87* so no reds so far this month.

I promised some better photos of my Row by Row quilt.  I am so pleased with the great job that everyone did on their row.  It's a big quilt at 72x88"

The family all gathered on Sunday to celebrate Father's Day.  We had a delightful BBQ, but I never even took the camera out for photos.  The memories will remain in a photo album in my mind.  Our children gave DH a Sous Vide Cooker.  It sounds very interesting.  We had a steak done that way an it was amazing.  Has anyone used one before?  If so, what did you cook with it?  Recipes????

I watched these little cuties the other day and they had fun going through the girl's hair adornment box.

Much of my time has been spent in the garden these days so will finish off with some photos from a stroll around the yard this morning.

One of my pineapple plants started from the cutting the top off of a store bought pineapple.  I am hoping to see a pineapple start on it soon.

We had a great time with Bonnie Hunter at our quilt guild meeting last week.  He trunk show was so inspiring.  The backs of her quilts are as exciting as the fronts.  This is one of her backs.

The front.

LOVED this yellow and blue.

This is her hexie quilt that she has often blogged about.
Of course there were lots of En Provence finishes by guild members.  I found this one gorgeous with the extra border to make it king sized.

Fun to see so many together.
Happy summer!

  5. I love all of the Hibiscus blooms. They aren't hardy here so I have to settle for the smaller flower Rose of Sharon.

  6. I love the smell of plumeria! My younger sister and I were having a late-night conversation last night, and she mentioned how much she missed the smell of plumeria. She went to all the flower shops in her area around graduation time hoping someone would have them so she could have a few gratuitous sniffs. Unfortunately, none of the shops had them. I really love the colors and design of your row by row. The quilt is quite phenomenal and would look great in my house. My next quilt will most likely be in that same color palette. --Andrea

  10. What a great, patriotic block, Mary! You're so lucky to be in a microclimate! A friend in Livermore is experiencing rolling blackouts and they are on a power alert! Your garden is so gorgeous! Sure wish I coul add pineapple to my Squash House fruit "farm"! Bonnie Hunter....wow....how fun to see her quilts in person. I follow "ohsweetbasil" on Instagram. I see they're doing Sous Vide...you might check them out for recipes.
    Cheers!

  12. I am glad to hear that you are escaping the heatwave. Although, 87 is hot enough for me :) The block for Carol looks so amazing, beautiful prints. I am so glad that you shared more photos of the Row By Row quilt. It is gorgeous. Yellow and grey combination is one my favourites. The little ones look adorable. I hope my garden one day grows up like yours, Mary. Your flower photos are always so pretty. The last photos of the all the quilts together - such amazing work!!

  21. Memories in your mind are so very precious. Great family Father's Day. Lovely quilts and those backsides are incredible. Your garden blooms are amazing! I have not cooked in a specialty made piece but have had lots of fun cooking egg omelettes in freezer bags which is similar. Summer Bliss with your temps. We had 10 days in a row over 100F...not usual at all. Sunshine Smiles...<3

  23. Oh, Mary< you make me want to quilt again. My second husband died almost 4 years ago and I haven't touched quilting since. He loved to see me quilt. I went through a horrible depression and lost 50 pounds and found it plus just a little more. Grrr - I need to lose the 50 pounds again and not the way I do it. I'm very prone to depression. I have fibromyalgia and many invisible illnesses. My medications are strong and a juggling act. God took my quiet 4 bedroom house that was full with quilting/knitting and other craft notions and filled it with children from now 4 to 40. My granddaughter will be 4 on July 5; her brother is 11 and her Dada is 40. I'm starting to reorganize my sewing room with my bedroom so Jessica can have my bedroom. Then everyone will have personal space. It's taken my three weeks while struggling with probable walking pneumonia to clean the downstairs bedroom except the floor. Everything else is clean and organized. I love the patriotic block. I love red/white/ and blue. I have a friend who used to sing for USO tours. She'd love that. I want to make her some things to honor her for her service. I'm interested in the temperature quilt. It's the first I've heard of them. It's hot in the Tulsa, OK area. We've had a record low for one day also. Do you have a link to the temperature quilt? See you are inspiring me. Good job on all your work. Susan
