Happy Spring

Isn't it a great time of the year?  I love spring with its promise of longer and warmer days ahead.  As well, the flowers are stunning this year with all of the rains we have enjoyed.  The clivia are blooming in the yard and the hills are filled with wild mustard.

My mom's hummingbird nest from last year is back and filled again.  The first little one hatched today.  It's hard to see with that feathery nest the mother has created.

This week has been about sewing curves.  I finished the last of the NY Beauty blocks and now it is a matter of arranging them into a quilt top.

After all of that curve work I ventured into even more curves with the Sew All Around QAL hosted by Gosia at Quilts My Way.  She has an excellent tutorial of quilting curves.  Like Gosia, I have always been a heavy pinner when sewing curves.  However, after all of the curve sewing I have been doing lately I managed to sew these curves with only two pins each.

We had a fun St. Patrick's Day celebration over the weekend.  Our daughter made the children such cute cupcakes complete with rainbows and pots of gold.

My Blogger problems persist.  Is anyone else experiencing the same problem of not being able to access their reading list?  Every once in awhile it will work, but for the most part I am unable to scroll down.  Bloglovin has been my go to for reading blogs, but I know that my full list is not on Bloglovin.  It is very frustrating.  If I have not been commenting on your blog, please understand why.

Happy Spring to all.

  1. Your flowers and New York Beauty blocks are beautiful. Good job on those curves. The cupcakes are adorable. Sorry to hear you are having problems with your reading list. I don't use Bloglovin' as much as Blogger. I'm having problems with the cut and paste to put new buttons on my blog and having some problems with leaving comments via Bloglovin'. Hopefully they will have the issues resolved. Have a great week!

  2. Flowers blooming, hummingbird eggs - a feast for these eyes that are tired of winter. I did not know that hummingbirds re-use a nest.
I wonder if your blogging issues are because you are an AOL customer.

  4. I'm very afraid of curves as I've heard they can be dangerous! Yours are so perfect. I cannot imagine how many pieces are in each NY Beauty block but they are gorgeous. I look forward to seeing how you arrange them.

The cardinals have returned to my bird feeder this week. They are so vibrant in color, even the female's browns/greys and her bright beak.

The weather has been just gorgeous here with low humidity. The temp for this morning's bike ride was 57 degrees...oh if we could just keep it!

  5. Beautiful Spring blooms!
    Loving all your curves Mary.
Mother Hummingbird does have a cosy nest and even after enlarging the photo I couldn't made out the baby.
    Such cute St Pats cupcakes.....
Yes I also am having blogger trouble but have worked out how to get to my reading list. Will email and explain.

  6. Love all your curves and happy spring blossoms. Looks like more rain in the forecast for this week, however. I Haven't had my sprinklers turned on all winter. I've been viewing my Bloglovin' on my phone. It is somehow easier.

  7. Your clivia caught my eye as I'm always drawn to the ones that aren't the traditional orange. And this white with yellow streaks is lovely! I got surprised last year with a pale yellow one in my yard, even though it was baby from an orange mama. I do hope it blooms yellow again this year - keeping my fingers crossed!
Oh - and pretty quilt projects too!

  8. I've had some fun with sewing with curves. I will check out the tutorial you mentioned. I've had trouble with my blog list just dropping off blogs that I follow. It seems to be the same blog so I started following it by email as well just to keep it. I don't know what goes on with it.

  9. Whenever I see clivias, I think of the day when Dad planted clivia seeds and lamented the fact that because they took 10 years to flower, grandma, who loved clivias, would never see them bloom. She saw them; he never did. :(

You are on a roll now with all the curves! Soon you'll be stitching them in your sleep. Can't wait to see the NYB layout! It will be fabulous!!

  10. Love those NY Beauty blocks and your newest curved project. I'll need to check out Gosia's tutorial. Are you trying to access blogger on a mobile device? For a long time I wasn't able to scroll down my reading list on our tablet but never had a problem while using my desktop computer. Then when Blogger made some changes to how the dashboard displays on the screen all of a sudden I was able to scroll down the list while using the tablet. I hardly ever use Bloglovin so don't know what issues there might be with that. All of this is a mystery to me which is why my blog has never changed in appearance since I set it up - I just can't remember all that technical stuff anymore!

  13. I love spring time too. I can't wait for the flowers to start blooming here. We're still a few weeks off from that though.

You're curved pieced quilts are going to be beautiful! I've sewn curves on garments, etc but never to make a quilt block.

  15. Oh happy Spring!!! Feathery bird nests, flowers and yellow mustard velvet, so wonderful. Super clever cupcakes. I used to tint the milk in a jug with green so the kids would think the leprechaun visited. One year I stopped because I didn't think the kids cared any more. Boy was I wrong, my son (young teen at the time) was very disappointed. I love the look of curves. Yours are perfection.

  16. Clivia! Thank you so much! Elizabeth (of OPQ) showed a photo of them and I asked what they were; she couldn't remember. I love the coral colored ones especially!

I already told you I love the NYB blocks and was happy to hear you are just using scraps. Wish I had batiks enough to use them that way, too. (IG)

    Happy Spring! Marsha (quilterinmotion)

  17. Glad to see Marsha's comment (above) because I was going to write to her to tell her what the flowers were, now that you'd identified them for me. Thank you, thank you!

All your projects look great, and I wish I could have been around for the cupcakes. So clever. (Now Dave and I just pick one up at the cupcake shop and split it, as there's no one to eat them.) Your NY Beauty blocks are really coming along--so beautiful. As always, you inspire.

  18. Your NY beauty blocks are wonderful Mary. You are so good at those curves. Thewarmer weather new curves are looking good too. Glad you are enjoying all the spring blooms. We are in the middle of the best daffodil displays. They are so bright and cheerful. Weatherwise it has been a cold couple of weeks after a relatively mild February. Roll on warmer days. I really need to blog, but the winter cough seems to have taken my get-up-and-go. I have done a little finishing of projects. Nothing as skilled as yours. Here endeth the long comment. xxx

  20. Isn't it wonderful to see all the spring blooms? My purple irises are in bloom as well as my periwinkle..........your curves remind me of the flannel curves quilt I have in my UFO pile........yikes! When am I going to finish that?
