Yeah for Gingham

Before I begin telling you about my projects I would like to pause and remember all of those who gave of their lives on this day in 2001.  Their families, friends and our country are in my prayers today.

And now….what is there not to love about the beauty of gingham?  When word went out that the ginghams by Riley Blake were going to be discontinued I believe many of us felt the loss.  Fortunately, we have since learned that there is a bit of a reprieve for some of it.

Thanks to Madam Samm and Shari, we have a hop dedicated to ginghams.  They are both fabulous cheerleaders and deserve much credit for their work.

saveRBDgingham

This was a hop that allowed us to work on three projects over the summer months and show in September.

See you in september

Project #1....My sewing this summer involved a lot of hand stitching since I was doing a bit of sitting while spending time visiting my mom following her surgery.  I first worked on my orange peels.  These are needled turned applique using fabric from “the stash”.  The borders and the buttons are a tiny gray gingham.

007

I entered this piece in the Orange Peel QAL.  Be sure to check out all of the entires and vote for the Viewer's Choice favorite at Quilty Habit.  There are so many lovely ones to been enjoyed.

Project #2....... was one I had started many several years ago and have finally finished and framed it for this fall.

010

Project #3.......As a child gingham seemed to be everywhere.  It was our palette for chicken scratch stitching.  It was a great way to learn to stitch.  A little ric rac and some embroidery floss made for very feminine aprons.  I’ve always had a great love for the fresh clean look of gingham.

029

What goes better with Riley Blake gingham that Riley Blake dots?  The combination is so sweet.

006

004

Someone seems to like the results.

Thanks so much Mdm. Samm and Shari for all of your hard work keeping us organized and on schedule for this hop.

Please be sure to visit the other bloggers for today and the remainder of the blog hop.

Waoh, as a mother of 3 boys, I could never sew a dress, and I really would have liked to, but in our family, the kiddies are all boys, so soccer, batman, spiderman and all that stuff. Nothing gingham and dotted, what a pitty, smile.
But I am happy, every one is loud and strong and happy, this is the best.
I love all your projects, your orange peel is wonderful, especially with these fabrics!

Gingham is as sweet as dots. Lovely projects one and all but I'm over the moon with the apron and the darling dress. I think the darling dress wins because of the adorable little one modeling it and the polka dots you've paired it with. :o)

Your stitched project and orange peels are gorgeous...wow! And then you went and made an adorable dress with a cute model...wow again! My gr-grandmother made me an apron similar to your pink one (mine was brown gingham) with stitches like that.

Everything is lovely. I especially like the dress and apron. The apron reminds me of one my mother had and which I now have in a drawer in my kitchen. It gets rotated among my aprons.

Oh, your Orange Peel quilt is wonderful. I love the touch of buttons. Cross stitch has always been a favorite of mine. I hadn't picked it up in years and tried last year and realized I couldn't see to do it. So, last November I had surgery on both my eyes and I hope I'm getting used to the prisms in my glasses to be able to stitch again. I remember gingham being a mainstay of life. I was the youngest of three children. My mom made matching ews gingham dresses for us and shirts for my brothers. When we went shopping in a larger town, she'd have us wear them. She'd tell me if I got separated to look at my dress and find something to match it to find a family member. Babby (Mom's mom) even had a red gingham dress. I love the chicken scratch. I want to try that. Your ray of sunshine comes through in the adorable dress. It's even cuter on your adorable model. I can tell she is thrilled with it, as she should be. Thanks for participating in the hop and sharing a bit of your summer. I pray your mom is recovering well.

I am sorry to be so late responding this week, my life was not my own, but I did want to say how much I enjoyed your post. Your quilt is lovely...but your apron brings back so many memories for me, when I was a girl and loved to do hand work. I think if you had had some more close-ups, people would have seen how much delicate work was in that apron! .....and that precious dress...oh my...and the princess who is in it :)
