A Wee Bit Busy

It seems like the busyness of summer is a common lament around blogland lately.  Life around here is no different.  Summer is always packed with fun and exciting events, putting up the products of the garden and trying to maintain a bit of sanity at the same time.

This week has been a bit busier than normal as we added four grandchildren to the mix.  Mommy and Daddy went to Hawaii for the week and had a wonderful trip with only minor rain from the hurricanes.  Life was not boring with a 1, 2 1/2, 4 and 5 1/2 year old in the house.  We loved it, but it was really nice to have some quite time yesterday once everyone left. Can you guess that I was also missing from the blogging world?

I have missed my sewing time lately so I slipped away to my creative room and left the cleaning until today.  My Spider Web leader and ender project has been so close to being finished so I did the last two blocks and then sewed it together.  It ended up to be about 70” square.

Today was so quiet.  I missed the early morning snuggles with the little ones, but it felt good to have clean floors and windows!!  Winking smile How could you not miss these faces?

The two year old went to Costco with Grandpa on Saturday and picked out a bouquet of flowers for Grandma.  Doesn’t this just look like something a 2 year old would choose????

We had a little excitement while the children were here.  Our tortoise eggs started hatching.  The little ones kept a close eye on the activity although the process is quite slow.  Two out and three more to go…..

Some of the grandchildren headed back to school today.  How can that be?  The rest go back next week.  Where has the summer gone?

I like your layout with half webs around the edge of the quilt, and the striped inner border gave it some pizazz.

I hope the kids remember the tortoise hatchings. They will find out they have seem something a lot of other people will never experience.

It IS always great to have them for a little while but in my case it sure is nice when they go home. I'm getting too old for all the noise and activity. But I know you have a wonderful time.

What a fun post. I've never seen tortoise come out of a shell (wish I was there), and I've always wanted to make a spider web quilt. (nice job!) and of course, grandbabies are a slice of heaven.

I love little one's choice of color. They have no fear of it at all. Sometimes when you want that extra punch to a quilt, ask a child. They always get it right!

Love your colorful quilt! So pretty! Glad you got some time in your sewing studio!! Those baby tortoises are adorable! What fun for the little ones to get to see them hatch. Just came in from the barn, had to put the boys to bed, my four legged kids~! Glorious evening, would like to sleep right out on the deck but the mosquitos would have a feast on me! R just got home, he and J had dinner up here with Rob. Such a nice young man. Going to the lake in the morning, having the roof power washed. It looks so much better with the new paint and stain on the deck. Always upkeep! :o)

That sounds like a great visit with your grandchildren. And a nice vacation for their parents!!!!

What is the solid color in your spiderweb quilt? I love how this has turned out! Are there y seams?

I am going to try the concentric circles on my solids quilt but I won't finish it in time for the deadline. School starts next week and the cat's in the cradle and all that...

Awwww.... those faces!!! So sweet and I know you miss them! It's nice to get back to sewing and your house being all yours again after such a visit, isn't it? We really enjoyed Sara's visit with her puppy but it couldn't compare to little ones like that :) There's just something about a little one in the house! Amazing to see the turtles hatching - wow!

Beautiful quilt! I'm glad you've picked up on a common refrain in blogland--we all seem to be enjoying our summer days, and for you: grandchildren! (I have the last batch of my crew coming here on Thursday for an overnighter.) I think the flowers are terrific, and how fun to have your tortoise eggs hatch while the children were there! Happy Summer!
