Still Alive and Kicking

Yep, I am still here.  I just haven't had time to get a decent post off and I didn't have a lot to show in pictures either.  However, I did manage to squeeze in some sewing today that lasted more than five or ten minutes.

Blocks 66, 67 and 68 are done on my Just Takes 2 QAL.  The new set also looks like they will go up quickly.

I've been working on a couple of blocks for an upcoming Blog Hop that I will be participating in.  My day will be on October 1st - the first day.  I rather like being first because there isn't the pressure of having seen so many wonderfully constructed blocks.  I guess it is like school when I liked to go first before someone else did an awesome job and then I had to follow.  Here is a sneak peek of my block.

I have also been working on a Christmas Tree design.  It is a fusible applique which I really haven't done much of in the past.  Cherry from Cherry Blossoms Quilting is the creator of this fabulous design.  If you are not familiar with her you will be blown away at what she designs.  I am looking forward to finishing the applique and constructing the quilt.

We had five grandchildren staying with us for a couple of days and they each wanted to make something with the sewing machine.  The boys love the embroidery machine and always have fun creating something unique.

My granddaughter is redoing her bedroom in aqua, black and white so she did a pillow to put on her bed.  I just loved her color combination.

We also got a chance at some wonderful baby snuggles for a few days.  This little one is as good as gold and is just starting to smile.  LOVE it.

You know it is autumn when the candy corn arrives.  My DIL showed up yesterday with a fresh bag of it for me.  Each year she manages to find a bag before I see then in the stores.  Now I know it is time to start my decorating for the upcoming season!!!  After all.....this is the last week of summer.

The days have been a little warm here so we always open the house up early in the morning to cool it off.  I had our doors open and two birds hopped right into the house.  When I saw them I went to show them the way out.  One flew out, but the other flew into the door, breaking it's neck.  I was hoping it was just stunned (as they often are) and set it outside.  The poor mate hopped around the limp little bird for close to an hour trying to get it to jump up and join him (or her).  I felt so awful.

Lastly....the winner of my book from the Blog Hop Party has not responded to my email nor checked my post saying she was the winner.  It has been two weeks so I selected a new winner through RNG.  This time it goes to Susan.  Susan is actually a regular follower of my blog so congratulations to Susan.  I will send you an e-mail.

What a fun post....full of so many interesting things. I am quite taken by your Christmas Tree! Stunning. What a great picture of the boys with the embroidery machine. I can see why they are so interested. I just bought my daughter a large bag of candy corn. And I'm the one who can't stop eating them!

Oh my goodness...what a busy lady you have been...as always, I am loving your Just Takes2 blocks...I especially like those little flying geese blocks they throw in every now and then....they are really going to set off other blocks well...The dresden is lovely...and I really love the way you have quilted around the petals. The Christmas tree looks like way more work than I would want to tackle and it is looking so beautiful...and the kids always make me smile....

Well it's a good thing that you're still alive and kicking! lol I always enjoy seeing the projects you're working on and I wish you good luck at the Blog Hop...I have no doubts that everyone will love your blocks:-)

How fun to have 5 of your grandchildren staying with you for a few days. I was so glad to see my two last weekend at the wedding:-) Chloe is a very fussy baby and only wants her mommy all the time so I haven't been able to cuddle with her much but Lily is another story! lol We have so much fun together:-)

Love the pillow your granddaughter made for her bedroom, it's gorgeous!

I haven't bought any candy corn yet but I'm bringing my mom shopping tomorrow so I just know a bag will make its way into my cart! lol Have you seen the new Oreo cookies...candy corn flavour?

Just the other day I was watching the news on tv when a bird flew right into the front screen door. It was just stunned though and soon flew away. I've had some break their little necks, though, so I know how you feel. It's always sad when that happens.

Hope your week is going well my friend. xoxo

I spotted candy corn the other day, it's a favorite of son #2. You sure keep busy between the sewing you get in and all of your lovely family visits. Always a smile when I visit your blog as you remind me how life is so good! I'll send you a different email later....

LOVE the brown and blue, your tree looks fabulous (saw it at Barb's), figures the boys would love the machine and the kid holding the baby just warms my heart! Great replacement for quilting, kids!

Baby snuggles and grandchildren trump sewing. I love the sneak peek of your "dresden???" That red and white you're working on is gorgeous.

It's no wonder you haven't posted...you've been too busy sewing! I should spend less time on the computer and more time sewing too! Maybe I'll do just that with a new project from the Jelly Roll book! Thanks again!

Love seeing each of the blocks you are creating in the gorgeous color combination of brown and turquoise. I look forward to seeing the blocks revealed in the upcoming Blog Hop. It looks like the Christmas tree took a lot of buttonhole stitching. How cool is it that your grandsons are just as interested in using the sewing machine! I wish mine were close enough to get interested. I've already had my bag of candy corn this year and am resisting the temptation to by more. Sorry to hear about the poor bird but there's not much we can do unless we were to pain the windows so they didn't think they could fly through them. Hope you are going to have a sewing week.

LOVE the pillow and the colors in it awesome!!!

Now I see what helps you to do those amazing quilts. You have a VERY elaborate looking sewing machine and it looks like it has it's own permanent space in your home.

Great fun for the children too.

I love the red and white tree quilt. I still have never done a red and white anything though without a doubt it is one of my fave color combinations.....
