May Schnibbles and Hello June.

Wow....has it really been two weeks since I last posted?  As they say, "Time flies when you are having fun."

It has been a busy and wonderful two weeks.  First of all, our very dear friends arrived from the UK and spent some very welcomed time with us.  The guys played a lot of golf while the girls shopped and sewed.  Two years ago when they were here, I had introduced Irene to quilting.  She went back with a small wall hanging.  This time we played with all of my strips and she went home with a full sized lap quilt.  I do hope that it fit into her suitcase!!!!!

She was saving the hand sewing of the binding for the long plane trip.

Although the weather was a little gloomy (and rainy) the first day they were here, it did warm up nicely to allow them a little of their requested sunshine.  They were with up for the first week and then we all left for Palm Desert for a business convention for our husbands.  Again, the weather was still on the cool side with a new storm that had passed through.  This is so unusual for us to see any moisture from March until October and we have already had three days of measurable rainfall and cool temps in May.  Despite that, we continued to have fun in Palm Desert and bid them a safe trip back to the UK yesterday.

Regretfully, I forgot to take my camera with me when we went to the desert.  It was one of those "duh" moments in packing.  Of course there was tons to take pictures of and they will all simply remain in my mind.  That would include the priceless photo of the two ducks that managed to walk into our room.

Our guest speaker at the spouses luncheon was Tim Gunn from Project Run*way.  I do not watch the show, but he was an interesting speaker nonetheless.  We also had John Wal*sh speak about his very tragic story and what his life has been about since that day in 1981.  I just cannot imagine the grief.

Today I have done a little sewing and trying to catch up with the end of the month swaps.  My goal was to get my Schnibbles quilted this month, but that didn't happen YET!!!  Maybe this weekend.  I did get it all pieced.  This month was a free choice pattern and I chose Gentle Art.  I love it and I love the fabrics - Cherish Nature.  I will be hanging this one in my sewing studio.

Block #7 of the Jelly Roll Quilt Along.

May's Barn Quilt Block.

I also received my PIF gift from Maria.  It is an adorable angel for my sewing room - all hand stitched by her.  She did such an amazing job on it and I will definitely have her hanging in a prominent position as she watches over my stitching.  Thank you so much, Maria.

Would you like to win an AccuQuilt Go????  Silly question, right?  Well.....Barb is offering one on her blog and you should check it out.  Please tell her that I sent you over.

As we enter Memorial Day please remember to fly your flag and pause to give thanks to all those who have served for our freedom.

  11. Hi There!
Sounds like you had a great time with your friends from the UK! And the luncheon sounds great, too. I think I would've had to hide from Tim Gunn, as I am a bit fashion challenged! Ha! Your quilts are amazing!

I have already painted that ugly doorstop heirloom white! Tomorrow I will give her a coat of Ralph Lauren's antiquing glaze. She is breathing a sigh of relief already. She looked much worse in person than in the photo!

  14. I love your Gentle Art quilt. I made that quilt too for my May Schnibbles. What's the odds of that, us both picking the same pattern. I really like that Cherish Nature fabric.

  15. Our hanger that we have always had our flag displayed in broke recently, so we must get it fixed. DC is gone to his 50th high school reunion in Wisconsin this week-end, so I haven't been able to get ours out. It is bothering me! Especially since our Memorial Day will be so special with our newly graduated West Point nephew joining us!

Sounds like a wonderful time with the Brits - though the weather was weird. They've had some hot and some more rain over there this week, according to Linds and my brother and SIL.

Your quilts again are wonderful - something I never tried, except for pillow tops in the cathedral window pattern.

To answer your question in your last comment to me - I read while I am on the elliptical machine and the stationary bike at the gym. On the days I don't have the kiddoes, if it's nice outside, I read on the patio. And I read fast.

Have a wonderful Sunday and holiday!

  18. I love the quilt you made with your friend! I actually love the binding part for some reason. I'm glad they let her sew on the plane. The last time I tried it didn't work.

I adore that quilt that has the spools all over it. I've seen that pattern before, but you made it up so pretty!

  19. You forgot to bring your camera when you went to Palm Desert? What kind of blogger are you???? hehe Now you have me curious about the two ducks that walked into your room! lol

Sounds like you had a terrific week with your visiting friends from the UK. Even when the weather doesn't cooperate, fun can still be had:-) I just love that lap quilt you both worked on, it's beautiful and no doubt she will think of you every time she uses it.

I'm not familiar with Tim Gunn but I do know who John Walsh is and the tragic murder of his son back in 1981. It must have been quite heartbreaking to listen to him speak of the tragedy.

I always giggle when I see the word "Schnibbles"...sounds like something you eat! hehe Love the colours you chose, it's gorgeous and I don't blame you for wanting to hang it on your studio wall.

Happy Memorial Day to you and your loved ones, dear Mary. xoxo

  27. Sounds like you have already jumped into a busy summer. Love your quilts. It is great getting together with old friends and I know you must be a marvelous hostess....and great tour guide!

Mader's in Milwaukee is over 100 years old. The hallway walls leading to the restroom are covered with autographed photos from Pres. Ford and Kennedy, movie stars, musicians etc. Of course Mary Jane and I had to read all the notes and letters. Our dining partners wondered what happened to us. They had time to eat their huge desserts!!!

  28. Love your quilts. Irene did a wonderful job on hers, too.

I always remember my father during this time. He was a Vietnam vet as as well as a Purple Heart recipient. He is gone now; but at this time of year, I think of the sacrifice he made for country, along with all of the other men, when he was just a young man in his early 20's.

Thank you for always leaving such sweet comments on my blog.

  30. I clicked for a super sized view of the Braintree friends. What fun to take back a quilt made with you. I guess they can still sew on a plane but I know that one cannot knit anymore.
